If both participants are adults, it's actually legal in most states. Marriage is out of the question, but the act itself isn't illegal.

Probably because the occasional genetic damage associated with incest led mediaeval people to believe that incest made God angry. Secondly, at the present time there is (as every newspaper reader knows) a paedophile lurking behind every blade of grass, and incestuous relationships are often between parent and child. Thirdly, people like Clarke and Blunkett enjoy passing laws because they are control freaks, and incest is an obvious target.

Although first-generation incest occasionally does produce a defective child, it takes a few generations before genetic deterioration really sets in. In any case, you can use effective contraception and forget the genetics issue.

It's because it's considered a taboo in our society. It's really the same sort of reason for sex in public being illegal.
It's not necessarily a logical thing (incest can lead to children with genetic functions. i don't think sex in public is that damaging in terms of the physical health of others)

But yeah. It's jsut because its a taboo. In certain other societies where incest was not taboo, it was regularly practised and not at all illegal, such as ancient Egypt.

its illegal because if, just say you and your sister were to have a baby, the chance that the baby would be retarded would be really high because both of you guys are made up of the same genes, and the doubling in almost the same genes will harm the baby. also, its gross !

It is based upon common law which is based on religious law which is somewhat based upon the bible. There is a possibility of genetic imperfections showing up from such relations

I don't think it's actually illegal.. meaning you won't get arrested if you get caught doing it. It's just widely looked down upon by society.

It is illegal, because if you have a negative restive gene it is more like to be past on.

But there are many jokes about it.
