how do u determine what to test in a software testing ?

I would think you would want to test it all. Q&A folks can do a really thorough job, but then so can a bunch of friends. I love to use friends and family to test out a new piece - most of the time you get a great sampling of what real world users would run into.

Of course that doesn't work with a technical piece - not everyone can really test, say Accounting Software (you would need accountants for that).

Some folks release in Beta and encourage the users to be their Q&A.
