I remember reading about this person who said that to be tempted is better than not to be tempted. If you aren't being tempted (to give up, for instance), that usually is a bad sign. Lack of temptation means that Satan (or his henchmen, since Satan isn't omnipresent) isn't trying so hard to pull you down, he doesn't see you as much of a challenge to his destructive agenda. If you are being tempted a lot though, it is most likely that Satan sees you as a more important target to attack.
Though I just noticed in your question, you didn't mention reading the Bible. Have you been reading it daily? Read a couple or three chapters a day, it is as Jesus Christ said - even to Satan, ironically:
Matthew 4:4 - Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
The Word of God is as necessary to the Christian as air is to men. The Word of God, you could say, is our spiritual oxygen, necessary and refreshing.

Stop asking yourself these questions......remember the faith. You are close enough to God. You are also human. Don't let yourself be discouraged. You will do un-Godly things in life, but things that you know you will be forgiven for. By the way, I'm not religious, but do have my own views on things. Just relax a little.

Just keep trying. You in the same scenario as me and thousands of others around the world. Just realizing that you keep failing is a HUGE step in the positive direction. Keep in mind that nothing is impossible for God. Those who fail learn to succeed. Keep trying over and over again and you will notice progress. As for coming closer to God, the more you try to overcome your sins, the more closer you come to him. You have already completed the hardest part by realizing your weaknesses. He knows your efforts, and I am sure you will be rewarded for those efforts.
God Bless

After you are Born-Again, at any level of your walk with GOD, the devil is there to discourage you. Stir yourself up at times like these, and ask GOD to strengthen you too.!!! Read your Bible every day too, especially the parts where GOD loves YOU. It really dosen't matter much what we think of ourselves after were SAVED, only what GOD says about us then!!!!!!!

It is Satan!! God is in your life constantly!! I give my heart to the Lord everyday because I know that I screw up. Whenever I sing worship songs to the Lord I feel so much closer to the Lord. Trying worshiping Him in song.

I believe very strongly in Christian council. As hard as it is these days, find another Christian you look up to and ask them to speak into your life. A lot of times it takes someone looking in from the outside to tell us what we can do to strengthen our relationship.

You sound like someone who belongs to a church. I would speak with your pastor/minister/priest. They can help you find direction, and become closer to God. Don't forget - they were educated in seminary for a reason. This is their job, and what they're there for. :D
