If this isn't England, then why do we use English measurements?

Both questions have the same answer: It was the calendar/measurement used by most of the original settlers and has been customary ever since.

Edit: The Gregorian calendar is called a "Christian" calendar because it was decreed by and named after Pope Gregory XIII of the Catholic church.

If every employee, student, etc. were to get the day off for every religious holiday ("holy day" means a special day that is set apart from the rest), they no one would every go to work. The Roman Catholic Church, for example, has a saint for every day of the year. God made us so that we would need occasional periods of rest to refresh and refocus on the main stuff He made us to do. Holidays are good, but in a religiously pluralistic society as we have in America, it is logistically difficult to accommodate everyone.

it's not the Christian calendar. it's the Gregorian calendar. and it's the most accurate according to western civilization. we call it the "Christian" calendar only because there are to many morons who don't know the history of their calender.

Actually we worship the Sun, that's why we follow a solar calendar and solar clock.

The US is officially an atheist (secular) nation, it is not a "Christian nation."
