When you reformat it, did you reformat it in the FAT format? Most cards still use this file format for they haven't moved to NTSF file format yet. Also, if your card had some hidden files on there before, you'll need to go to the site of where your camera or memory card was produced and download a little 1k-some file and put it on the card so that the camera recognizes the card. Good luck.

Wherever possible, format a memory card in the device you wish to use it. In the case of a card in a camera, use the camera.
The camera expects the card to be formatted in a certain way, which your computer/laptop may not do. This is apparent in the file system. This is also important in an xD card. Olympus and Fuji develop this media, but Olympus use a special panoramic setting. This setting is stored on the card. If you format this with a different camera or with a computer, it wipes this setting too. But with the original camera with panorama, it formats and keeps this setting.
I realise your question is based on a CF card, but this example gives one reason why you should use the device and not a third-party formatting method.

Did You change settings on the camera during the photo shoot, to TIFF, or RAW format? A lot of card readers will not recognize anything but jpeg..like photo kieosks. Try formating your card in the camera, not on the puter? Just a thought..

The first is caused by unsafe removal of your camera from the PC. before you disconnect your camera from the PC, make sure you stop or eject the device/flash drive first so that it won;t cause any error to youe camera.
For the second problem, you have to format your flash card with the camera for it to recongise it. what formatting does is it prepare the storage device for the particular device which its been formatted with. so if you format a Flash Card with PC, it prepared for PC, not camera. You need to format the Flash with the camera. If you did so already, try and format it again
