Simply tell him he's a nice guy but he's not your type. There's no need to tell him he's not hot.

Its going to hurt for him either way so just be honest with him. Trust me I have had let down SOO many guys they think I am a lesbian (I am not!) lol...I have tried all types of things and I realized honesty is the less hurtful because they get over it faster. Rejection is never easy even you are doing the rejecting or you are the one being rejected just be simple with it, if you don't even want to be his friend, tell him so. Most of the time things will get awkward between the two of you, either he will pull himself away or you will..Whatever you do don't give him hope, guys will not understand, they take that as a maybe so they become more persistant causing things to get ugly..Good luck.

Are you lettin him down jsut because he's "not hot"? I have some advice for you: I understand that looks and attraction are important, but not everyone is blessed with being born "hot". Focus on things that are attractive about him ...his eyes, maybe? Or his smile, or the way he laughs? and consider giving him a chance.
The best advice I ever heard was to marrry someone you enjoy talking to, because in 50 years when the looks go, and the sex drive goes, the conversation skills improve. You'll have someone you can talk to and laugh with, and that' as important as anything.

You should just tell him in a nice way that you are not interested, leave his looks out of it, he is going to be upset but at least he will have some dignity left instead of you just saying " um I just think your a dog" say something like " I think it is nice that you are interested in me but I am just not interested in you like that."
Oh and don't say that you "can still be friends" ( unless you are good friends already) because then his little hopes will be high that someday you might change your mind.
Be clear that he knows you are not interested, don't lead him on or put it off.

Why do you have to insult him to let him down. "Hey sorry, I would date you but your ugly and unpopular." He should be telling you, "Hey, sorry, I just realized your shallow."
Just tell him you don't feel the same way and you aren't interested in dating him, leave the personal insults at home.

just tell him he really isn't your type. if you tell him you arent ready for a boyfriend and then you start dating someone else, you'll end up hurting him still.
