Why not take him shopping and get him to choose what he will eat. Most kids enjoy watermelon, strawberries and corn on the cob though.

Don't be too concerned with not eating fruits, that's not being picky for a child that age. He will grow out of it in time so just don't worry about it.

What you can do is mix him some fruit smoothies. You don't have to tell him they are fruit smoothies, unless he likes the taste and asks what is in it.

that is the only idea i have at the moment, but a few more details wouldn't hurt for some more advice.

hope i could help

Make a chart to list any new food he has tried. Let him know that all you want is for him to try it. Take him to the store for a special trip to pick up only one thing, something new. Walk through the fresh fruit and veggies. Have him pick out what he wants to try. Be ready to answer any strange question (ie Do radishes really give you a rash? Where does that grow?) Maybe start the questions to grab his interest. Make it fun. You may end up going through many different things you haven't eaten either. Have an open mind. Be positive. Good Luck and Enjoy your special time.

You could try putting applesauce or mashed bananas in pancakes or muffins. 100% fruit juice is ok in moderation. (too much may curb his appetite for solid foods) Like the other answerers, I recommend not having junk food in the house, because if it's there, it will get eaten! Be a good example and eat healthy foods yourself. Eat meals together at the table (not in front of the tv). My children are not fond of vegetables, but if I cut them up (the veggies, not my kids!) and put them on a plate on the table at snack time (without saying a word about them), most of it disappears.

Don't worry about it too much. Don't force your child to eat anything they don't want, it will back fire. I have 4 children and I do not make them clean their plate if they don't want to, but if they want dessert they have to finish dinner. I do make them try new foods and sometimes bring out others that they tried before and turned down. Childrens taste buds change and they sometimes go through stages where they will only eat one food. We have a problem with vegetables, trying to find at least one that they will all eat. Recently I let the kids pick some new ones to try. They are more willing to at least try the foods because they picked them. You would be suprised what foods they picked, okra, spinach, brussel sprouts, and lima beans. Let him be involved in picking meals and preparing them, maybe even growing some of his own. What about 100% fruit juices?

Well needless to say... Fresh fruit is the best thing for a 5yr old or any age really. But if you son wont eat fresh fruit... try to buy things that contain 100% fruit that is in some juices... or make it fun... if you own a blender.. make him a fruit smoothie...

kids don't intentionally starve themselves so i wouldn't worry overmuch.

if he is in proportion (and his doctor is saying that he is) then he is obviously getting enough to eat.

kids do also have a taste for their nutritional needs too - and this can vary from child to child - there are very few nutritionally deprived children in our nation so why not give him choices? also if he isn't eating fruits then is he having vegetables instead? also try some brown bread with fibre instead of white as a substitute

you can try and give him a fruit smoothie (making sure you strain out the pips) made from scratch - and involve him in the making.

(a touch of milk plus a banana to thicken and then add whatever other fruit you have to it) most kids adore that especially if you top it with a knob of ice cream.

I had one of those but he is slowly getting better(he is 7 now) Do not offer junk food. He eats what you are eating or go without. If he is hungry he will eat. If he eats veggies don't worry too much about fruit. Explain why we need to eat good food ie. calcium vitamins etc and explain what happens if we don't eat them. Remember it is your job to put the food in front of him it is his job to eat it. Just make sure there is no junk or lollies or anything like this as that is for children who eat a balanced diet

My 9 year old has always been picky and he also had ADHD and his medication surpresses his appetite I just let him eat when ever he wants and I am sure to always keep plenty of what he will eat. If he will drink juice be sure to give him 100% friut juice that will suppliment for his lack of fruits.
