How does a heterosexual pastor speak against sin when he had shrimp for dinner, a ham sandwich for lunch and didn't stone his neighbor to death for mowing his lawn on Sunday? Those things are distinctly condemned in the bible in exactly the same passages where homosexuality is condemned!

There's no actual distinct condemnation of the act of homosexuality. Bible speaks not about serious, love based monogamous homosexual relationships. Bible tells about perverted sexual acts involving animals done both by males and females and "sacred" boy prostitution, but not all homosexuality is wrong. Bible also speaks about fornication and divorce. You can ask the same question about pastors who were found guilty of fornication or who divorced preaching about sins. But then again judging others is also a sin, so why judge?

There are different opinions and interpretations about the Bible's condemnation of homosexuality. I happen to be both gay and Christian. I am a member of Evangelicals Concerned, which is a group of glbt Christians nationwide. There are also many members who have been through seminary and have served (or are currently serving) as pastors in various churches and denominations. And they have also written a brochure called "The Bible is an Empty Closet" in which they explain the various verses that have traditionally been used to condemn gays.

This is the opening paragraph from that brochure, which you can find online.

"The issues about homosexuality are very complex and are not understood by most members of the Christian church," according to Bernard Ramm of The American Baptist Seminary of the West. This evangelical authority on biblical interpretation says that, "to them, it is a vile form of sexual perversion condemned in both the Old and New Testaments." But as Calvin Theological Seminary Old Testament scholar Marten H. Woudstra says: "there is nothing in the Old Testament that corresponds to homosexuality as we understand it today" and as SMU New Testament scholar Victor Paul Furnish says: "There is no 'text on homosexual orientation in the Bible." Says Robin Scroggs of Union Seminary: "Biblical judgments against homosexuality are not relevant to today's debate. They should no longer be used ... not because the Bible is not authoritative, but simply because it does not address the issues involved. ... No single New Testament author considers [homosexuality] important enough to write his own sentence about it." Evangelical theologian Helmut Thielicke states: "Homosexuality... can be discussed at all only in the framework of that freedom which is given to us by the insight that even the New Testament does not provide us with an evident, normative dictum with regard to this question. Even the kind of question which we have arrived at ... must for purely historical reasons be alien to the New Testament."

The same way ever other pastor speaks out against sin as a sinner. Aren't all people sinners? Why should a homosexual (although, for the record, I do not think homosexuality's a sin) be considered less holy than the pastor who has lied?

The Bible also condemns eating pork, failing to rotate your crops, and lusting after your neighbor's wife (all punishable by death). Yet society today understands that these guidelines are to dictate how you should lead your life, rather than how you should judge others.

None of us are free from sin. Your religion teaches tolerance and forgiveness. The rest of us show you tolerance when you chose which parts of the Bible you will follow and which you will not. You should show the same tolerance to those who select differently.

We've all fallen short of the glory, fella. So even a "straight" pastor would have the same problem unless he is without sin. His would just be something other than homosexuality, if that's even a sin.

I don't know the bible very well, so does it really say that it is a sin. But that is a valid question to ask. It makes it very confusing to people.

So hear is another for some to answer. If as you say, it is a sin, then why do priest molest little children, and the church keeps it hush hush. I thnk all men, and just not priest ,should have their balls cut off.

But if Jesus died for our sins, is it a sin. Aren't we all forgiven for what ever we do. who gets to pick and choose who is saved and who isn't.

What a real honest person of God would do is expound the erroneous beliefs so often embraced due to faulty understanding of those bible words and statements

he / she would expound all historical matters

he / she would accurately expound all contextual matters

he / she would accurately expound all truths about the topic "homosexuality"

Part of the truth is this. Bible writers / editors reveal to us NOTHING about homosexuality. Instead, they reveal ignorance and brown nosing.

Well it kinda depends. We'll say he has a chemical deficiency and therefore he is gay, as long as he doesn't act on any of his thoughts he isn't committing a sin. But he was acting on his thoughts then I guess he isn't a real good pastor, cause he ain't one.
