PE or gym class is no longer 5 days a week like I used to have it. Some schools have no PE at all, and some have it only 2 days a week.
There is a law/bill trying to be passed right now which will bring it back up to 5 days a week.
Contact your state representative and tell him you agree with this bill to help things move along quicker.

At our school, it's required you have 1.5 credits of gym to graduate. Each semester [every day] of physical education is .5 and it's up to each individual whether they want to take the standard physical education or strength training and conditioning.
However, they teach us nothing in these classes. Half the time, our teacher isn't even in the room. He has a PLASMA SCREEN TV in his office and sits around watching ESPN, rather than watching what two dozen teenagers are capable of [we've knocked down huge ceiling vents "playing kickball," barely missing my head, might I add] . I myself know what's healthy and how to stay fit, etc. but none of it comes from my physical eduation classes.

Gym class is now P.E , and we do not get taught anything that has to do with eating right in gym. All we do in gym is swim, run, play. Kids usually do things like soccer, football, baseball or softball, basketball, tennis, and dodgeball. Just random games. The eating and health habits come from health class.

Yes they teach P.E. but kids copy what they see most. At home physical fitness is not encouraged. The kids copy their parents and all to many are over weight. The family will have it a priority. we tend to depend on the schools too much. The educational requirements keep changing and cuts are rampant. They assistance from the family. There are even some people pushing to have recess abolished.America needs to transform. Peace.

Sure, but is gym class really effective? If you spend thirty minutes waiting for your turn to swing a baseball bat and then strike out, did you really burn any calories? Not to mention the obscene amount of teasing and ridicule that happens in the school change rooms. Physical education classes exist, but they're not effective.

My kids still have gym class, but it is only twice a week. That is for elementary school K-5. It would be great to have it every day. But we've had them doing regular walking and other activities to make up for it and to stay healthy.
Cheers :)
