I just have to know that he has a master plan and that every single day of my life is already planned out. I have to trust him. If I don't, I'll just go crazy trying to figure out why this and why that.

I lost 4 family members to death in the past 10 months. I had to lean on him or I would have lost my mind. I have become increasingly close to his presence. I read and pray a lot more. It started because I needed something, but he was there for me anyway and made me feel comforted. The only thing that is keeping me going is knowing that he is with me through this. Just like when the three men in the Bible(I won't try to spell their names) were thrown into the firey furnace because they worshiped God, they didn't die, their hair wasn't even singed and God was in there with them. He wasn't talking to them from a distance. He was right there in the fire with them. I can't say that about any human being that I can see, but I can really feel his presence when I look at it that way.

Through close reading of the Bible and prayer, then later special prayers, I was blessed with an unusual--to me at least--relationship to God and to Christ through the Holy Spirit. I was given the ability to hear his voice, as the Spirit brought it to me, and allowed to copy down his words to me. This took place often more than once a day for ten years. I am a journalist, trained to listen and take down what I hear, so this was something that made it possible. I listened. If my mind had a question, the Lord answered it for me as I listened. It was a rare and exciting experience, but it ended as I was told it would. But I know that now his words to me are not heard but come to my unconscious mind, where we all can receive God in us. Yet I never felt closer to God than when I was hearing the Holy Spirit delivering God's word to me, a personal word to one man; not necessarily words meant for all men.

All depends what you think of as God. I'm an atheist, in the organized religion sense of the word, but I sure feel close to the power of nature when I walk to the top of a hill and wonder at the beauty of the world, or see a newborn baby.

Ironically, losing my physical health and becoming dependent on others around me has taught me how much more I have to be dependent on God. At least he doesn't ever ask for a raise, leave me with wrinkles that leave bed sores, or "forget" that I do need to eat once in awhile. He serves me all the time! As I improve and am able to do more for myself, the more I realize I have to depend on God and that's the greatest co-dependency in the world! His Word keeps me daily feeling closest to Him. The old gospel hymns keep me in devotional mindset with Him. And how I see him working in the lives of those around me as they see him patiently, tenderly working in my life and through my life I realize he's not just close, through the power of the Holy Spirit he dwells within.

What does "feeling closer to God mean?" Are you trying to understand God? What makes you worthy to know what God knows? Does it make you God-like and therefore superior to humans?

Prayer. Praising and worshipping Him. The more time you spend in prayer (fellowship) the closer He comes. That's because you are allowing Him in. God bless you.

Faith...it's the only way. You cannot 'know' God without it. I have a personal relationship with the Divine, which is IMPOSSIBLE to explain in words, because it is beyond words and concepts that can be shared. I think the Hymn that says it best is, "They will know we are Christians by our love." Only, I'm not Christian. I don't believe it is necessary to have any particular religion to have a close and personal relatioship with the Divine.

Going to church. Making friends with other Christians. Reading my Bible. Making personal and intimate times with God. Prayer. Just remembering him all day as I do my daily routines (keeping him in my heart and mind).
