For one, SDA do NOT approve of inter-denominational marriages. How far do you want this relationship to go??

Check out http://www.adventist .org for ALL about Seventh-Day Adventists.

Ask your boyfriend for (1) the day he goes to church - Saturday,
(2) why he does not use pork, coffee, alcohol, and (3) why this church does not accept PRACTISING homosexuals as members, (4) the heavenly sanctuary.

I know all about this this church: I have been (an still am) a long-standing member. The SDA church is an extremely conservative church

thegreatwhit (above) and Hyzakyl (below) are both correct, each from a different perspective.

In response to "just wondering" below (as it relates to non-use of coffee), while the specific prohibition is NOT mentioned in the Bible, the PRINCIPLE of keeping your body healthy, said body being the temple of God, is valid. Since coffee, tobacco, alcohol, ect. destroys your health, abstaining from these IS Biblical. Medical research shows that SDAs in US live an average of 8-10 years longer than the average US citizens.

I. ADVENTISTS

Adventists, members of a number of related Protestant denominations that stress the doctrine of the imminent second coming of Christ. Adventism received its clearest definition and most earnest support under the leadership of an American Baptist preacher, William Miller. Miller and his followers, known initially as Millerites, proclaimed that the second coming would occur between March 21, 1843, and March 21, 1844. The failure of this prediction was called the First Disappointment, and many left the movement. Following this, a second date—October 22, 1844—was set, and many Adventists disposed of their property in anticipation of the event. The movement was widely ridiculed after the day passed uneventfully. Thereafter many Adventists lost faith and returned to their former churches. Those remaining split into four main bodies, which still continue to flourish.

II. SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS

By far the largest group is the Seventh-day Adventists, with 10 million members worldwide in the late 1990s. The church originated between 1844 and 1855 under the leadership of three American Millerites, Joseph Bates and James and Ellen White, but was not formally organized until 1863. Two tenets are prominent in the church's theology: belief in the visible, personal second coming of Christ at an early but indefinite date and the observance of Saturday as the Sabbath. Members accept the Bible as their sole religious authority, placing special trust in the literal interpretation of prophetic passages. They hold that grace alone is sufficient for salvation; they administer baptism by immersion and practice foot washing in connection with observance of the Lord's Supper.

Seventh-day Adventists expect the eventual destruction of the wicked and everlasting life for the just, including the living and the resurrected dead, at the second coming of Christ. In their social life, approved recreation replaces entertainments such as dancing and theatergoing. The denomination has a comprehensive program for youth. Holding that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, Seventh-day Adventists put great stress on health and avoid eating meat and using narcotics and stimulants. They maintain some 520 hospitals, sanitariums, dispensaries, and clinics around the world. The denomination also conducts missionary, educational, and philanthropic programs supported by a voluntary system of tithing (contributing a tenth of one's income) and by freewill offerings. Church activists are maintained in all parts of the world, and denominational publications are printed in 272 languages and dialects. The church conducts one of the largest school systems of any Protestant denomination.

The seventh day Adventist are a group who worship on the sabbath, which is a commendable action for anybody or any group. Unfortunately, there are rules which they follow and enforce amongst their flock, that are not in the bible, such as the no drinking of coffee, there is nowhere in the texts' that tell you that this is prohibited, and to enforce a non-existent rule is deplorable(for want of a better word).
All in all though, the Seventh Day Adventists as a group follow the ten commandments which in my eyes is just and right.(I am not a S.D.A. member myself).

Have you checked out their 'official' website...? (see below) They get their name from a strong belief that the 7th day...Sunday...should be kept holy...and restful. Also, they have particular dietary and health restrictions that most other Christians do not follow. There is also a concept of being unconscious after death and that Satan is responsible for most earthly suffering.

Also you should be aware of what you are getting into should you marry your boyfriend. Since he's a Seventh Day Adventist be prepared for verbal & emotional abuse & also be prepared for a long list do's & don'ts. Also be prepared to be told what you can & cannot eat. If you do marry him just be prepared for a life of abuse!
