If you're talking about excessively dry skin, you should have your dog seen by a qualified veterinarian. If you're talking about a fair amount of dryness, it's suggested often that you add Salmon oil to their food as it contains essential Omega 3 fatty acids for a healthy coat and healthy skin. I'd get your dog on a premium, human grade food, too, like Canidae or one of those. The effects of poor diet often show on the skin first. Bathing too frequently will dry the skin out, too.

Add omega oils to the dog's diet...for example, you can give your dog cod liver oil or vitamin E capsules. I would also try putting a little extra olive oil in his kibble. Your dog could also have allergies or eczema; you need to check with a vet. Are you bathing your dog too frequently? Harsh shampoos and frequent bathing can dry out a dog's skin. Frequent brushing helps keep your pet clean, If you do bathe him, use a mild shampoo like Johnson's baby shampoo or one that is formulated for dry skin...oatmeal may relieve the itch.

There is some stuff called Lanatone, dogs like it and is good for there coat and skin. You can also give him an egg once in a while. That wount hurt him and is good for him. Use a good brand of dog food, like Ims or Scince diet. Cheap dog food does not have the nutriants that dogs need.

not a home remedy.. but I have had good luck with stuff called bag balm.. it comes in a square green tin and was created for the purpose of moisturizing the teats of cattle that became dried out from the milking process.. works very well for cracked skin on dog paws and seems to be very soothing for skin irritations.
Also seems very natural by looking at all the ingredients.. and has very little odor

Don't use human shampoo, whatever you do. The pH balance in it is different and can mess up their skin even more. Fish oils in their food is good, and oatmeal bathes are too. You can either buy a hypo-oatmeal shampoo at any petstore or make up a plain oatmeal paste (even the packets work) and use it as a shampoo.

Depends on the reason for the dry skin. But try using conditioner on them. I use Suave coconut something or another and he looks great. Soft and petable.

you might want to take your dog to the vet because olot of conditions appear as dry skin...hotspots, fleas, stress...they can get worse. but if it is dry skin i would try not to give your dog a lot of baths, maybe get a skin moisturizer...they have it in pet stores
