Do not remove them. They'll be no harm to your baby.Your friend is trying to be creative but doesn't know how.Can you ask her to explain why?.If it makes you feel better, ask your dentist.I am registered dental assistant, with the experience of 12 years.

No. Certainly not. Your mouth has nothing to do with your maternity. It's what you put in your mouth. Braces are a correctional periodical treatment which does not effect your baby or other systematic reactions that will affect the health of your infant. Please do not remove your braces and tell your friend to do check up on her facts. I study medicine in school and your dental status does not correlate with your maternal performance at all.

It shouldn't have any effect on your pregnancy, but your pregnancy does have an effect on your oral hygiene. Certain bacteria such as p.intermedia will actually flourish from the higher levels of progesterone in your blood. This can potentially result in hormone induced gingivitis or periodontitis and sometimes also express themselves as fibrous outgrowths on the gums (pyogenic granulomas). Most people already aren't very good about flossing, and those with braces tend to be even worse do to the added difficulty of having to thread around the wire. Being pregnant puts you at higher risk, so it's pretty important for you to be diligent about brushing and flossing in order to maintain optimal oral health.

Listen to Avavu. Braces are definately not bad for pregnant women, I fail to understand why your friend would tell you that. Perhaps she may be bad for your pregnancy by causing you unneccesary stress.

You might have some sensitivity and/or bleeding when you brush, but that could happen with any pregnancy. The braces aren't going to hurt your teeth unless you're not brushing well because of the sensitivity/bleeding. If you're not brushing well, it could lead to decalcification, which are the white "stains" people get around their brackets when they have poor oral hygiene. They can't be polished out and you can't "whiten" them out either.

They can be potentially hazardous to your unborn baby if you ever get a big infection in your gums/teeth...but other than that I don't see any reason why wearing braces would harm your baby...hope this helps and good luck and congratulations in advance!

I don't see why it would be a problem. Maybe make your gums more sensitive or something. Ask your obstitritian if you have concerns.
