Washing it more often could wash away the natural oils which would increase frizzing. I've actually had to start using a straighting balm to try an control my hair from tangling an frizzing. It seems to work if I do it everytime I shower. During the day you can always braid it but for me I can't go all the way down or it frizzes the ends. Or twist it up just don't keep redoing it through out the day with out combing in out or you'll get a rats nest. When rubber banding it use the ones that are covered with no metal on them they catch the hair I also go for the thickest ones I can find. Also in you aren't into plain pony tails you can also do victorian rolls or an inside out pony tail.

Do you have dry, damaged ends? If so, your hair will tangle more. Try geting a trim. It can help.
If you have long hair, braiding it or wearing it up will prevent tangling. I have long, thick hair and I wear it up 99% of the time.
Try braiding your hair before bed. That will help, too.

A good leave-in conditioner will help. You can also try lightly oiling your hair. Put a few drops of a light oil, like jojoba or sweet almond oil in your hands, rub your hands together and then work it into your length and ends. Keep it off the roots, crown and scalp to avoid the oilies. This can help and will condition and moisturize your hair.

My hair is long (past my waist), and it used to tangle all the time until i put it into braids. yes, braids are a sure fire way to keep out the tangles. Alos, check that you don't have lots of split ends, they can cause tangles (did with my hair). oh, and henna...it tangles less now that i use henna in it.

Use cream rinse last daily, be sure to rinse it all out.
Don't brush wet hair, use a coarse comb even in shower.
After towel drying you can spray with detangler or a leave in conditioner.

Keep it very clean and use a good cream rinse to remove any frizz. Keep you hands away from it, they may be causing the tangles.

You could also try using combs or barettes to keep it off your face.

Use a very good detangler, after washing your hair, daily.

Look at this conditioner/detangler:
