This is not going to get you excited about it at all... but I'll go ahead and say it:
Take a college class on either World Civilizations, European History, or World History,
~~~~~ preferably if it is about during and everything after the 1200s C.E. ~~~~~
You will understand that everything you believe in was a purely human effort. Understanding the history, the reasons why things are the way they are, will place you above these things.
I was once a catholic too. I did research and ask really logical questions like: (a) why are we here on earth (b) who among those who claim to be christians are really teaching the bible correctly, and living the way Christ did?
I found many in Christendom did not give satisfactory answers to those basic questions. Now, I am no longer a catholic.
Try to ask around. For example ask who should be our model in interpreting the Bible. If someone gives you the answer similar to that in Luke 24:44,45; and Acts 17:3, then you probably found the right group.
More hints: Avoid those who teach the Trinity, the immortality of the soul. These are not biblical; but pagan teachings.
First ask yourself why you want to stop being part of your religion, in your case catholic. Is it because that you truly don't believe the Catholic teachings or don't you like the people there?
Make sure it is a legitimate reason before you leave.
After that, if you still want to change, find a religion that you believe in the most, talk to the people that you need to talk to and join that one.
You don't say your age, but I guess you are stuck in the Catholic church because your parents are Catholic. I feel for you. I was raised Catholic too.
As a child you have to honor your parents, so you should keep going to church with them if they really want you to. If you have any Christian friends, ask them if they have activities during the week that you can attend with them. Christian churches usually have fun get-togethers during the week that are casual and can give you an idea of what their church is like. That way your parents won't feel like you are bailing out of the Catholic church, and you can eventually start attending the Christian church (even if you have to wait until you are 18).
I guess you should really look at what you believe. And then study to find an organization which fits your beliefs.
OR (even better and more effective)
You could ask God to lead you to the truth. After all, truth really isn't relative. There is only one truth. Either there is a God, or there isn't. And if there is(which there is!), you are His child and if you ask, with a heart sincerely seeking truth, He will guide you to it!
Religion should not be a 'club' you join. It is a belief system turned into a way of life.
Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and then you have a relationship not a religion. From there Jesus will lead you where you need to go to develop that relationship and it won't be within the confines of the Catholic religion.
If you no long feel like being a Catholic, choose a different faith and learn all you can about it...then, perhaps you'll want to 'convert'. However, if the rest of your family is strongly Catholic, that might cause you some issues...
You must choose the truth. You don't get to pick. Who wants to pick a lie anyway, even if it is what you want to believe? God expects you to believe what is true. If you really want to live by the truth and want to know what the truth is, just pray for Him to show you and lead you into the the truth and decide to always seek the truth. I will not even tell you what religion I am, but I will tell you that if I do what I said, you will find which religion is true.
I used to be Catholic too...I didn't believe in it, although I had a strong belief in God and Jesus Christ. Do some praying and ask God what He want you to do. I'm not saying I have all the answers but I now belong to a religion that I truly believe in, that brings me hope and happiness.
You can't. Catholic assassins hunt down and kill anyone who tries to leave the Catholic cult.
Seriously, you just stop going to that cult's services and stop calling yourself whatever you used to be.
I was a practicing Christian for over 30 years (mostly Baptist) and I finally found the answers I sought after much prayer and deliberation:
The bible is a book of mythology and fairy tales and supernatural entities "God(s)" do not exist in fact.
The only thing "Christian" about any Christian cult is its name.
I know this is true because God told me so.
