Chuck it onto a screaming hot grill and let sear. Once the meat lets loose of the grate give 1/4 turn for those cool grill marks. After blood/juices start to pool onto the top (I like rare to medium rare) flip and leave alone till other side is seared and steak still has plenty of "give" when pressed down in the middle with your finger. (If you make a circle with your index finger and thumb and press the area between the bottom knuckle of the thumb and bottom knuckle of the index finger-that "give" is rare. Poke finger back a little farther towards the wrist, there is a little less give and that is medium rare. Anything more than that is overdone to me. The secret is a hot, hot grill and leave the steak alone till it doesn't stick to the grate. Happy cooking!

rib-eyes are my favorite steak, and i am very care full not to overcook them, or they taste like cardboard !! depending on how thick the rib-eye is, will determine how long you let it cook on one side, before you need to flip it over to the other side--i usually cook the second side a little less time, so that the steak does not get too dry..the thicker the rib-eye, the longer you need to cook it, to get a medium rare steak...i prefer the thinner rib-eyes because they are easier to cook---maybe 3-4-5 minutes per side..the real thick rib-eyes look great., yet they are difficult to cook medium rare without overcooking them, or they become too dry--try marinating rib-eyes, in Worcestershire sauce & diced garlic for an hour or so- it is great--if you are not sure how long to cook the rib-eye..i would under-cook it rather than over-cook it, because it will probably get too dry- you can always cook it a little more, if necessary--good luck to you- hope i did not overkill you here-any more ??--holler back at me !! I am a TEXAS guy, who loves BIG hunks of red meat, medium rare, still juicy, and well-marbled !!Yeah, Carnivores !!

allow it to mostly cook on one side and then flip it to finish on the other.
i don't know how bi your steak is, but the steaks i usually get from the store take about 3-5 min on one side then about 1-2 on the other...depending on how well you want it cooked.

happy eating!

well, you could aim for those criss cross grill marks. that can reduce the number of overly dark grill marks.

to do that, cook some on each side twice.

Flip it.

Let it get charred on one side & flip it over.
