It means "Father." The Rev. John Smith would be addressed informally as Fr. John. Reverend is the honoriffic title for a man of the cloth in several religions, not just Catholic. Formally, he wuld be called Reverend Father. A Catholic deacon would be known as Reverend Mister Robert Jones
And for those who will start quipping on " call no man on earth your father"....Paul referrred to himself as his students' " Father in faith.'
That is where the idea comes from. We refer to priests as "Father" because they are our SPIRITUAL fathers by virtue of the fact that they are the ordinary ministers of baptism, leading us to Christ.
