just before the attack, all our carriers left the base. if they would have been there, the war would have been lost. also, there were reports of japanese spy planes and midget subs uncomfortably close, but no action was ever taken. did the US government allow Pearl Harbor to happen so we can join the war?
by the way, in no way am i trying to degrade the sacrifices that our soldiers made. i heard that we let a ship holding 11 Americans get sunk in WWI, and the battle at Pearl Harbor seems kind of suspicoius. it also makes me think 9/11 was allowed (if so, i hope those that let it happen get the fleas of a thousand camels to infest their lower regions). think about it: Bush jumped at the opportunity to invade iraq. afghanistan should have been where most of the fighting is, but i hardly hear about that country anymore.

Yes this proves it
29 Nov.- Hull sat in Layfayette Park across from the White House with ace United Press reporter Joe Leib and showed him a message stating that Pearl Harbor would be attacked on December 7. This could well have been the Nov. 26 message from Churchill. The New York Times in its 12/8/41 PH report on page 13 under the headline "Attack Was Expected" stated the US had known that Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked the week before. Perhaps Leib wasn't the only reporter Hull told.

No. The Military didn't allow the incident and attack at Pearl Harbor to happen just so they could join the war. Why would the military purposely sacrifice their own men to join a war?? FDR who was President at the time would have never allowed that to happen.
There were 188 Planes destroyed of ours along with 8 major battleships.
Japanese planes began a day-long attack on American facilities in the Philippines. (Because the islands are located across the International Dateline, the local Philippine time was just after 5 AM on December 8.) Farther to the west, the Japanese struck at Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand in a coordinated attempt to use surprise in order inflict as much damage as quickly as possible to strategic targets.
Although stunned by the attack at Pearl Harbor, the Pacific Fleet's aircraft carriers, submarines and, most importantly, its fuel oil storage facilities emerged unscathed. These assets formed the foundation for the American response that led to victory at the Battle of Midway the following June and ultimately to the total destruction of the Japanese Empire four years later.

Our aircaft carriers left Pearl Harbor loaded with airplanes for Wake Island's defence only days before the sneak attack on Pearl. The U.S. knew a war with Japan was coming but not when or where it would start. The day before the attack a midget sub was spotted by a USN destroyer in a restricted area near Pearl. The sub was sunk, an action report was made to Pearl but no further investigation was made. So, America in essence fired the first shot of WWII.

It is foolish and naive to think that FDR or "the Military" allowed Pearl Harbor to happen. We were likely going to get into the war in short order anyway because we were actively supplying the United Kingdom, and that in itself would have made an encounter with the Nazis a fact.
We were in negotiations with Japan at the time of the attack. Sink a ship, maybe. Sink a fleet not likely. How about we put the blame for that where it belongs.... with the Japanese imperial officers who actually thought they were going to accomplish anything more than pissing us off.
Your issues with the Bush administration shouln't transfer to WWII. Notwithstanding, if you're going to blame administrations based on conjecture, then start with the Clinton administration: The Clinton administration was offered Osama bin Laden by the Sudanese government, but couldn't figure out how to say "Yes, Please!"

At that time we were not all on the same sheet of music. Many things that day slipped through the cracks with the higher ups and I don't think people were thinking this would ever happen to us but it did. We were basically caught with our pants down that day and we paid dearly for it. We lost so many men that day, so sad. I think we learned a great deal from Pearl Harbor but over the many years people forget things why I don't know. I don't believe that our government would intentionally let this happen. America was different then, people loved their country and respected deeply the sacrifices of our service members. We were united, not like now. Such ashame.

Only the uninformed think so. We broke the Japanese diplomatic code, but not the naval code, in 1941. We knew they were up to something, but the Pacific is a big place, and there were lots of possibilities. Pearl Harbor was the least likely place to be attacked, because it was the farthest base from Japan. Warnings were issued but they were very general, and arrived too late to do any good. Remember, too, that Roosevelt wanted to get into the war against Hitler. Japan was not his focus. War with Japan did not guarantee war with Germany. We did not declare war against Germany until AFTER Hitler declared war on us.

It is hard to tell if there is any patriotism left in this country. I am ashamed of half of the answers I read. As the mother of an Officer, I taught him & all my children great pride in their country & the freedoms they have & who fought for them. My son joined after college & a good job to repay that sacrifice of others before him. He went to grueling Ranger School - so he could lead the way to freedom & have the best chance of no man left behind.
The answer is no they did not set up the hundreds who died in Pearl Harbor. The carriers move often to protect their location & they were expecting problems somewhere else. As for the soliders seeming unprepared, it was SUNDAY - many personnel were off & it took time to return to base. Before making baseless accusations against our brave military, read more than 1 website or book. If you are uneducated & everything is America's fault, keep your stupidity to yourself, even the UK is making fun of you.

I dont think so. America actrually tried to keep out of WWII because of the after math of WWI ( great depression, etc). Americans where basically pushed into it.
But today people believe that 911 was more of a government hoax and a reason to go into Iraq. When i fiorst heard about it I thought it was stupid until people brought verfy very valid proof. Im not saying I all of a sudden agree with it, It just puts soime suspision in my mind.

I think Roosevelt was stupid not to evacuate more ships. However, after 65 years, if he had -known- the Japs were coming, someone would have found out.
Remember: FDR would have been running a huge risk to his personal safety if it had gotten out that he let 3,000 men die by baiting the Japs to come after us. He might have been shot dead by his own Secret Service for a stunt like that. And nobody would have fought for him if they knew it were nothing but a power trip for ol' Frank...
Yes, I have heard the conspiracy theories, and FDR should have been, in hindsight, more cognizant of what was going on. But he didn't let it happen...

I totally think that our military personnel need to be alot more careful concerning the safety of our nation. we could of been able to do alot more for this nation if we had been notified about 9/11 and also this is so about the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7. i know that our military is good at some things but they seem so preoccupied with things that really dont need to be messed with. like right now we need to have our military here and not over in iraq and afghanistan destroying innocent lives as they try and try again to reach and destroy the lives of those that bombed us on 9/11. they are taking too much time over there getting themselves and others killed. it is totally worthless and time consuming. they need to be over here in North America protecting us but they are over across the ocean stealing oil, but most of all stealing the lives of people that dont deserve to die. if they really wanted to save lives and to do something worth being done then they should of done something about 9/11 and pearl harbor to save the lives of those loved ones that died. especially since they blamed the japanese and the iraqi's and the afghanistanian's for killing the lives of their precious loved ones. so yeah i hope that answers your question.
