If I could afford to give him $1300 to help him out, sure I would do it. If giving him the money was going to keep me from paying my rent then no I wouldn't.

No, because if he's in jail, he has 3 hots and a cot. No need to beg.
Not to sound Cold, but I have worked with homeless people before and most used to laugh at me, as they made more money a day begging than I did working. Then of course they bought booze or drugs.

No, our local paper, The St. Petersburg Times, followed one of those guys with the sign "Will work for food." He was taking home tax free $200 a day and lived in a nice apt with a fully stocked kitchen. It's a scam. There are lots of low level jobs and they can go to the Salvation Army and other places for food and assistance. One guy was holding a sign near a MacDonald's with a help wanted sign and a hotel with a huge help wanted sign. I have worked for over 32 years in the social services and there are lots of places to get help. You don't have to hold a sign. If you are capable of standing for hours holding a sign in the heat, you are capable of working. The other gimmick is the one where the guy tells you he's a disabled vet. If he's a disabled vet, he is eligible for both VA benefits and social security disability. He does not have to be standing by the side of the road with a sign. Then there are the deaf people who sell you the sign language cards. I used to hand them my business card and offer to give them a job because I was involved in a jobs program for deaf people. They turned me down.
Yes, there are people who truly need help, usually single women with young children and no one to care for the kids, those with psychiatric problems or elderly people. A person with a physical disability or who is mentally retarded qualifies for SSI or SSDI and is also eligible for vocational rehabilitation services. A guy in his 30s or 40s can get a job or enter a program that will provide him with food. The catch is he will have to give up drugs or alcohol.

As long as he is in jail he will have a place to stay and free meals. My taxes are already paying for him to be there so I no I would not take any money out of my pocket to bail him out.He could have very easily gone to a church, soup kitchen or homeless shelter for help.

Alot of those people have a great deal of money on hand. I was raised on the road and we met alot of people that would try to get my dad to go and beg because of the amount of money they could get in such a short amount of time. Trust me he probably has the money on hand. (This is not a joke and I'm not trying to be mean, its just the truth.

I would want to help him and homeless people but for the most part they spend the money on alcohol and drugs and that does not help them at all.

no.. we all have a choice in what we want in life.. his choice is to be homeless and a bum.. there are agency's etc. that can help him get off the streets.. some of them chose to live that type of life.. no-one can help them... but themselves... seems harsh.. i wouldn't help him..not because of selfishness or anything like it.. because he'll be right back out there doing it again!
