I was invited to fly out to Las Vegas with a family member but i am scared that the plane might crash or somethin. Does anyone know the percentage of plane crashes now? I really want to go but im afraid this is my first time flying.

I could have written this very question a couple of weeks ago. I just took my first flight also-AND it was to Las Vegas! I was terrified. The takeoff and landing were the worst parts for me. Being in the air isn't so bad unless there is turbulence, then you just have to remember you are hitting air pockets-nothing else. There isn't as much up there to hit as there would be if you were driving-lol. Take off and landing remind me of being on an elevator. You feel a lurching of sorts. It makes you have butterflies in your stomach. You may want gum because your ears might "pop" several times. Truthfully, I had my Dr. prescribe a mild sedative (Xanax) which really helped me a lot. I sat by the window on the way there and believe it or not it was better for me to look out at the sights then on the way home looking around the plane. You ARE safer in a plane than in a car. When I kept getting nervous I would look at the others on the plane-they were all calm and minding their own business. I figure if they are calm-there isn't anything to worry about. Try to get some sleep on the plane or bring mags or a good book. It will help pass the time on the plane. Try not to worry. Have a great trip-Vegas is quite an experience!

I used to fly dozens of times a year for work and I believe the last major airline disaster was 9/11 (in the US). There've been smaller commuter plane crashes (Cessna's and whatnot) but passenger jets are pretty safe. It's actually safer to fly than it is to drive.

Of course, there have been a few crashes internationally but if you compare that to worldwide flying, I think the percentage would be less than half a percent. Maybe even lower.

Flying is fun. It's the airport and waiting and going through security that sucks more.

air travel is the safest way to travel, with our security and the system checks that are done, i wouldn't be afraid (I had to fly to NY with my band and I felt what you feel now at first don't be afraid)
