The King James Version of the Bible is one of the oldest translations in English...there are many newer versions that are easier to read....check out biblegateway.com and you can read the Bible in various different translations. My favorite is the American Standard Version! Good luck to you and keep reading God's word...you'll be amazed how it will help you in your daily life and through the rough valleys of your journey.

Plenty of people have answered about the KJV, so you can look at their answers. If you want to read regularly I would suggest you get two Bibles. First, I would get a study Bible that helps explain some of what you are reading, the history behind it, etc. Personally, my favorite is the New Oxford Annotated Bible, which is the NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) translation. This is the Bible we use in my divinity school classes. The NIV Study Bible is also very good. Take a look at both of them and pick the one you like best. The second Bible I would recommend would be "The Message" which is not a translation, but a paraphrase. It is by far the easiest to read, and I think you will enjoy it.

The KJV was just the first Bible sepperated into chapter and verse, first mass produced and the first available to laymen. It has no more or less authenticity than any standard version. Like all Bibles outside of the original text, it has some flaws in it but it will still teach you about Salvation. Read what ever version is most comfortable for you. Many like the NIV because it is in modern english and is translated off all available early text and not just paraphrased from the KJV.

There's really no such thing as a "regular" bible, but the King James Version is what is meant by the "regular" bible.

The KJV is just a translation of the bible done in 1611 (which explains all the thee's and thou's). There are other translations out there which may suit your needs better. My suggestions are the (not in any order):

1. New Revised Standard

2. New American Standard

3. New International Version (NIV)

4. Amplified Bible

5. Bible in Basic English (I have not actually seen this one but it's online here http://www.o-bible.com/bbe.html)

KJV is the King James Version. It is a " regular" bible. It just uses a very different language than say the New International Version and others that are written to be easier to understand.

the biggest difference is the content. Protestant bibles have less books in them than the Catholic bible does.
in 1611, King James ordered the Church of England to decide on a standard version for Protestants and had it translated into English for the first time.
all Protestant bibles since then, NIV, Amplified, etc, are all just updated versions of the KJV.
I recommend New KJV because it's easier to read while still keeping the spirit of the original.

The KJV is God's word. The average word is 5 letters. You can understand it if you know that the whole Bible is written for your learning but it is not all written to you for doctrine so you need to rightly divide the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The new so called regular bible leave out important doctrine like the blood of Christ, the virgin birth and the fact that Jesus Christ was the a member of the God head. You are not only to read God's Word but you are to study it. Don't let people tell you that you can't understand the KJV because it is old English. It is the book that has stood the test of time.

There's no such thing as a "regular bible." Each version is a different translation. The KJV - King James Version - is the version most Protestants use. Other editions include the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), New International Version (NIV), and the New American Bible (NAB.) Each is better suited to different things such as scholarly research.

There is no certain religon that uses the King James Version. I am Baptist so that Protestent crap doesnt float. If you get a lets say Gideon Bible then there are diffrent chapters than in King James. The living word bible breaks it down King James is theartrical, Gideion Basics only. And most part diffrent bibles have diffrent books.

The KJV was excellant in its day which was 16th century english... but the olde english language is very different from modern english... in fact, the KJV has almost 1000 words or phrases that are either not in use in modern english or have changed meaning completely..... also, many more biblical manuscripts have been found since the KJV's final revision, so newer translations have more [scriptural] evidence to draw from in their translations....my personal favorite translation is the NASV (New American Standard Version). -Shalom
