I think the army is pushing for combat engineers right now. My son (17) is joining and had never even heard of combat engineers, and the recruiter convinced him that is what he really wanted to be. Make sure this is the job you want to do because you like it, not because it offers a high enlistment bonus. As for training, I don't really know- some explosive type training, some building type training too.

A combat engineer is an Infantry construction worker. A combat engineers job is basically support the infantry. They build bridges to cross the infantry and blow up any obstacle in the way.
So, the training is going to be a lot like infantry training shoot, move, and communicate with added explosive training including anti-Armour where you learn to take out tanks.
You have to be in top physical condition, highly motivated, and able to grasp the training. That last one simply means you can't be a rock with lips.

Forget about being a COMBAT ENGINEER and go Psychological Operations. Save yourself the heartache of being treated like a grunt. PSYOP soldiers are part of Special Operations Forces and it is the easy living, thinking outside the box, used your mind - to screw with theirs' job.
