This is Tamill's son. I hate it when people get the common misconception about Satanism. They do NOT believe in Satan. Satanism is just the complete rejection of all Christianity. They call it Satanism because it is the complete opposite of what the Christians believe. And I am not a satanist so do not think that. I just keep an open mind about other religions and research them on my own.
So there for neither of the given answers are correct they are a kind of atheist they believe that Christianity is fake, their for the devil is fake, it is just called that because it is the opposite of the name of Christianity.

Added later by Tamill: My Son has a friend into this cult. There are different denominations of Satanism. This one is of an Antichrist Spirit, who believe in the ideology of it. There are other Satanist beliefs who sacrifice (new borns, animals, etc.) to Satan and drink the blood in the ceremony. I had watched a true video of someone who was a victim of this belief. I believe the killing of innocent is worst sin. Jesus bore even this sin on the cross, the Lamb without blemish. No one else can be a sacrifice to compare. So, Jesus did it once and for all.

No. While there are people Satan is a literal being, mainstream LaVey Satanism is an atheist religion. They don't believe Satan exists. This was written by a Satanist:

"Satan is not a real, living entity, conscious or a physical thing that can be interacted with. It is a symbol, something ethereal, something that basically doesn't exist except as an emotional attachment and personal dream. Just like Buddhists do not worship Buddha, Satanists hold up Satan as an ultimate principal rather than an object of literal worship. Satan inspires and provokes people, like all (honest) religions the ultimate point is self-help. God believers have a different opinion on what Satan is, but their opinion is a result of their religion. Satanism's Satan is much more eclectic and multicultural than to be defined by Christianity or Islam.

Satan is the dark force in nature representing the carnal nature and death of all living things. Satan is the best word to describe our powerful and independent symbolic figurehead and our opposition of God and organized religion accords with even traditional views of Satan. The materialism of Satanism (even the spiritual components are highly reductionist) is a direct challenge of God, Allah, and all or other religious symbols. Satan wishes to replace God. The Christian Bible and other artefacts of religion may be plundered and misused as required as they're merely Human inventions. The social engineering aspect shows through with our imagery and style, we control people with it.

Of course Satanism has denominations and widely varying beliefs. Many types of Satanism exist including some where Satan is seen as a living being. I think if there was a god, it would probably be an evil one. In these, thankfully, the basis of the belief is not the Christian Bible and I call these beliefs "Righteous Satan" theologies."

The first answerer has got it right, as far as I'm aware. Some people who are trying to be shocking say that they are Satanists, and that Satanism is about worshiping satan and sacrificing goats, but it's really about doing things for your own pleasure and fulfilling yourself above others, which is considered evil in some religions, hence it's association with Satan.
True Satanists don't believe that satan exists.

Generally speaking, I believe they worship the philosophy of Lucifer (or Satan). He believed himself to be God's equal/above God, and was punished because of that (pride's a sin, all that kind of stuff). But for some/most Satanists, I think they really just believe in being their own Gods, doing what they believe is good and what not.

The Satanic Bible (by Anton Szandor LaVey), and the Official Church of Satan, does not believe in the Judaio-Christian Devil as a real creature, they do not essentially "worship" anything, they accept the truth of all human impulses - irrespective of social concepts of good or evil.

This Church of Satan believes in the concept of human beings, in all the full colour that "striving" to only do good or socially acceptable things denies. They believe in the animal and the intellect, the power of the physcial and of the mental. This amalgum is an entirely strong one, and is identified with "Satan" because of the concept of the traditional Devil as a strong, self-realised individual - "better to reign in hell than serve in heaven", as John Milton put it in Paradise Lost.

Since the original Church of Satan was set up though, there have been a number of splinter groups, some of which fall back from the essential nobility of the original concept and worship some variation of the Christian Devil.

Do christains believe in god as a literal being or does he simply represnet the Christian philosophy?

I don't mean my question in a harsh or disrespectul way. but if you examine my question and your's together.

you'd find the answer is that all religions, cults are only schools of thoughts much like stoicism and neoplatonism, and romanticsm and the enlightment movement

best wishes

p.s. but from the previous answers it seems satanism is more towards "to sate" which makes my answer somewhat protracted and useless, but best wishes all the same.

There is variation within the ranks. Most are simply interested in seeking carnal and material pleasure without regard to spirit beings of any type. Some believe in Satan and attempt to tap into that power.

My understanding is that they don't worship the devil. They worship pleasure. Enjoyment, self-fulfillment, etc. are considered somewhat evil, hence the name. But they find these activities not only enjoyable but worthy of worship.
