grey ceiling with grey walls? Should I do it?

I want to paint my small bedroom medium grey and have the same color on the ceiling. Conventional wisdom says this will make the room smaller, go with a white ceiling. There is extremely little furniture in the room as the closets are large and contain, on shelves, all my clothing, etc. so I am prepared to take a chance. Should I? Thanks for your thoughts.

You must do it! You will be amazed how beautiful and dramatic it is. Before we were married, my husband painted his entire apartment medium grey. Any color that was introduced into the room -- flowers, art, wood furniture, whatever -- really popped out. We miss the glamor of his old place.

I have had a bedroom with grey walls and grey ceiling. The trim and doors were white-ish. The ceiling was one shade lighter (on the paint deck pick the next color away from the binder for the perfect match).

It was spectacular. In the end the grey that I ended up with on the walls had a slight purple undertone and made my faux painted bed (that is purple and silver) look spectacular.

As for making it appear small--that's an old wive's tale. When you enter some of the most fabulous tiny powder rooms they are painted in dark colors floor and ceiling and they look fantastic.

Just be sure that take a fabric swatch of your rug/drapes or furniture so you pick out the right color.

AND it's imperative that you get a small can of the color you think you're going to like and test it before going all out. This can save you lots of cash.

First, you should follow your own tastes and instincts. If you want grey, then paint the room grey. I once painted a room totally black for a customer. I thought she was nuts. However, it was a party room and it turned out very nicely. If you do paint the ceiling grey too, use a lighter shade because it won't be that noticeable, if at all, it will give you a lighter feel to the room, and it will still be the color scheme you're looking for.

By the way, I also painted another room for that same woman totally red. So, have confidence in your wants and instincts.

I'd stick to colour in accessories, which includes ornaments, cushions, art, throw rugs, lamps. First colours that come to mind for me are dark blue and purple, but grey will go with quite a few colours. If you have a large wall area, try to find something in a colour you like to put on it. Keeping the wall colour the same will give you more flexibility if you want to add or change accessory colours.

I would have to say depending on your choice of gray it would probably be cute if you painted the walls a dark gray and the ceiling maybe a shade lighter therefore it would make the room pop with whatever furniture you have and it will also make the small room look to be about medium hopes this helps

I painted an entire bedroom grey (a medium 'concrete' grey) and it looked wonderful! I trimmed it in a dark grey. Accent it with brushed nickel or pewter colored accents and it will be magnificent!

I love yellow and/or red in a grey room. Either add accessories all in white or go for some color. Try throw pillows, pictures on the walls and lighting to bring in extra color. Have fun.

Go with a light grey with a hint of blue...
