or life in prison, while in europe if a person rapes and kills a person they would get about 10 years in prison? i mean ive heard cases like in the US a man murders a child and her mother they get can get about 90 years in prison or worse, while in europe ive heard cases where women murder their infants one after the other and get only 15 years in prison? why is the US strong on these types of things while europe (especially italy) they are so layed back??

not 10 years, but i mean to say, for example here in italy you often hear cases of young kids being raped and the offender getting maximum 7 years in prison, every case goes like that. the other day i heard a case in europe forgot in what country it was that a women had been killing her kids after their birth and hidign their bodies in flower pots! she had killed about 7 of her own children! and you wont believe me but she only got like 15 years of prison or around that.

im 100% sure, i live here in italy, i hear these things all the time.

Realistically there is actually much more crime in Europe than the U.S., in the U.K. alone there is one half as many reported crimes as in the U.S., and the U.S. has more than 5 times more people.

You sound like you've done your research, so it surprises me that you are not aware that the lenient rape sentencing guidelines in Italy (a holdover from Mussolini) were thrown out and made more sensible in the late 1990's. And you also say "Europe" as though each country does not have it's own laws. In Germany, rapist's typically face a life sentence. To turn your question around, if the US is "strong on these types of things" can you explain why the murder rate is so many times higher in the US than in Europe?

It has to do with our standards of morality and justice. We have a very high regard for life here...it's understood by society that if you take a life, you may forfeit yours also. The law here hopes you'll reconsider your decision knowing that fate and not commit the crime at all. Crimes against women and children don't go over very well in the US . Especially here in Texas.
Sorry those things are taken much more lightly where you live.

Raping and killing someone is worthy of the death penalty in my opinion. Something's wrong with Europe if they only give 10 years for that!

Are you sure that's true?

There have been several cases in the US where men have sexually abused a small child and have gotten off with probation, and no jail time at all.

But in the US there is no national law on rape, murder, child abuse, each individual state has its own laws and own punishment requirements (or lack of requirements)
