I don't want to spend over a couple thousand dollars. It is for my daughter to get to her very 1st job. She will be making the payments, and I would like for it to last at least until the car is paid off.

You're either going to spend a few thousand (or more) on a reliable used car like Honda or Toyota, or you're going to spend the same amount or more to repair the cheaper car you bought and kept breaking down all the time. Consider also the money you put into the car for your daughter is 'life insurance'. The more she's protected and has reliable transportation, the better your economic choice.

I'm sure everyone else will say the same thing, but you can't go too wrong with a Honda Civic or Toyota. I've had problems with Subarus. They do things like change certain components every year, so certain parts are hard or expensive to find. I've had mixed results with Nissan. Some folks swear by Volkwagens, but their parts are more expensive, ditto for Volvos. I'd stick with a car that is widely available. I'm trying to think of a decent cheap American car...for two grand...well...the GM cars with the 3.8 V6 engines are usually fairly bullet proof. Chevy Luminas are ok.

Buy her a 1990 - 1991 Toyota Camry. They are very dependable car and the prices run from about 1,500.00 to 2,000.00 dollars. My husband has had one every since we got married in 2002 and it has over 289,000 miles on it and it's still runable.
