Most of the people living today are allergic to dust mites...this is just an evolutionary trait we have all grown into. Dust mites, as you know, live on skin cells and dander. They live among the dust. The worst places they love to "hide out" are in the furniture and in your bedding.
The best way to handle these beings is to wash your bedding in hot water...including the mattress pad. When the pad is off of the bed, spray the mattress itself with a mild bleach/water solution or a mild ammonia/water solution (NEVER mix bleach and ammonia...this can be fatal!) Air the mattress out well until it has dried thoroughly from the sprayer solution. Vacuum the mattress well. Try to buy and use non-allergenic or hypo-allergenic bedding and mattress pad.
The furniture and carpeting should be vacuumed thoroughly at least once a week. Buy one of these special vacuum filters that will not let any allergens out...I think they are also Hepa-filter..one that has pores very, very tiny. Dust your furniture thoroughly at least once or twice a week, also. If the pollen and dust are high outdoors, run your air conditioner.
We do this weekly and our dust mite allergies are diminishing. Good luck, dear.

I am, too. You can get dust mite covers for your pillows, mattresses, and comforters, as well as an additive for your wash to kill them. You can find the covers at most stores that sell bedding. You can also find them, as well as the wash additive and other allergy supplies at National Allergy: http://www.natlallergy.com/index.html .

I am too. If your problem is worse at night in bed. Change your sheets weekly, wash your pillow monthly and hoover your mattress. Wet dust around the house too don't use polish!
