Well seeing I'm that age, I should know something about it.
By forty, you usually have a good job situation, you are settled, have a good home.
If he is happily married, and has kids, those are all good things.
You know him better that we strangers do, so look at his life, make a list, it seems he has a great family, if you are doing this card for him.
It might be fun, although a bit tough, but see if you can come up with forty reasons to be happy.
Nothing major, it could just be his favorite movie, TV show, coffee, etc. Shouldn't be too hard, give it some thought.
You can add yourself to the list, I am sure he appreciates you too.

Heard you’ll soon be havin’
The mighty big “4-0”
So here’s a little gift
In case you’re feelin’ low
It’s a sucker bouquet
So that you can “lick”
Your blues ‘bout turnin’ forty
To give you back your kick!
Hey bro' I gotta tell ya
That you’ve aged quite well
You haven’t many wrinkles
(At least that I can’t tell!)
But still you may be feelin’
A bit down on your luck
So settle in your rocker
And give a little suck!

Someone told me that life begins at 40. By then , your children should be almost out of the way, you have some experience about life, so you are not easily led by others and you should have a little bit of mon ey by then.
Hope this helps.

by 40, you have laught and cry, your eyes have seen many people while your words have changed many people's minds.
You are caring for your family and have crafted your life.
by 40, your world looks so different from mine.
You've realized so many things, while I still have to try.
by 40 you are a good man as you will all your life.
Happy birthday.
