Every year or so I develop knots on my scalp that itch and secrete oil and become crusty. Changing my shampoo last year corrected this, but it has started again.

It sounds like psoriasis. Maybe check with your doctor to see if that is what it is.
If so, you need to treat it from the inside of your body.
I have a product that is an adaptogen and goes to work on auto-immune deficiencies.
Let me know if you would like more information.

Could be a skin problem, allery problem with dyes in shampoos, pollen that settles in your hair, and/or hormones. If it happens the same time each year it could be allergies, pollen that settles in your hair and becomes inflammed. Maybe try to wash your hair or at least rinse it morning and before bed to get out pollens, and try natural shampoos from a health food store. They have huge selections and the staff can help advise you on the best for your skin and hair textures.
