I couldn't agree more. I read the other day that we are having a real problem with cigarette butts as a pollution and environment waste and hazard problem than many other substances that are found in waterways and drains. I live in Dallas and we have recently passed a No Smoking law in restaurants. I never knew how much I appreciated it until I went somewhere that didn't have the law. My wife is allergic to a lot of things, and smoke is one of them. We couldn't even finish our dinner because she was suffering so much. The state of Texas is also going to be raising taxes on cigarettes, which I welcome. It is a nasty habit, and one that I know is hard to quit. I have family members that have tried quiting for years. I don't hate the person, I hate the habit. I do wish that the smokers out there would not just toss their butts to the ground. Most cars have ash trays, use them. I wish there was something we could do to help reinforce the no-littering laws. Maybe we can report the license plate of the car to the public officials. See if there are any kind of reporting tools found in your local city's website or a phone number you can call in offenses. Good luck friend

I have asthma also and I do not smoke. It is a repulsive habit. Recently I read a study that showed by Harvard 49 percent of smokers had an underlying personality disorder and that smoking was outlet for them. The best tactic is to educate younger people about the stupidity of smoking and to seek out mentally deficient people and get them psychiatric care before they take up substance abuse problems. I worked with a smoker for 3 years and his wife smoked but his 3 children didn't because he insisted that it was a horrible habit he couldn't break. He tried on more than one occasion to quit it but it was too difficult even with medication to help. The best stradegy with smokers is to avoid them because they are not going to respond positively to you pointing out their repulsive habit. When I go in a resturant if I smell a cigarette generally I will leave after informing the management that I intend to eat elsewhere due to the presense of smokers. There are a lot more nonsmokers than smokers and this really adds up into a big loss for them if you all participate.

Go somewhere that doesn't allow it then. Smoking should not be illegal in restuarants. If you don't like it or the place doesn't keep it properly ventilated then you and others should affect their business and they will change. If only smokers go their and they can make it on their business then thats fine.

Restaurants in my area have outlawed any smoking at all in restaurants or bars. Its just too much gov't control. SOme have gone to secret late night smoking when they know they can trust everyone. And quite a few restaurants have gone out of business from the smoking ban.

In no way do I advocate smoking but I do not like having the government telling businesses that a LEGAL activity can not be practiced in their business. Heck, I'd much prefer a no kid section in a restaurant.

Find a better topic to preach about. A tightly constructed house or office building is more dtrimental to your health than sharing a room with a smoker.
