I see people (mainly teens) type like that all the time.

What do they call that style? I assume it's a style.

Why do they do it? Is it supposed to be cool?

And how do they do it so quickly and consistently?

Is there some program that does it for them?

Are there rules for what to capitalize or is it totally random?

I don't get it.

i call it a "WaIst Of TiMe"
it's a way to tell if the person is a teen or not
they do it coz it makes the words look different. you know here we can't add colors or change fonts and so on..so the only way to customize your writing is by using caps..
i don't think they do it quickly..it's just a waist of time
there is no program
no it's only random..there are no rules..usually every other letter..

I think teens spend so much time on the internet talking that they do that just to spice it up a little. Plain text must get a little boring after a while with a computer glued to a pathetic teenage existence.

I don't know why they do it, but I really don't mind. I mean, I can read equally well capital and small letters, so you can use either, and your message will come through. Rules exist, of course, but they're not legally binding. I mean you don't actually HAVE to follow them, so you don't go to jail. Rather than rules, they're conventions, and conventions change faster than you'd expect.

I call it CRAZINESS!! I hate when people type that way. It's very hard to understand, and its ignorant. I wish people wouldn't do that.
