Same here. I always find it better to go buy the food that they beg for ( they always write that they're hungry) If they accept it then I know that my money was well spent. However, it only consist of a few chicken sandwiches from the dollar menu at McDonald's.....

I usually just ignore them. But I try to not go downtown or other places where there are street beggars. Might not be so easy for some people. If they are really bothersome, go inside a business and call the police. Most large cities now have ordinances requiring panhandlers to have a permit.

If they are talking directly to me, I just firmly tell them that I do not have any extra cash to give away. Other than that I avoid eye contact.

I donate to organized charities and local organizations that help the homeless and not to people on the street. This is because I'm not entirely sure what they will do with the money. If they are hungry and I have the time or have food with me I'll give them the food. But not money.

Buy them a small packet of ham or turkey (Carl Buddig is great!) and a bottle of water. Both cost less than 2 bucks. You could also help them find their local homeless shelter or a job. We are not above street beggers. Karma will insure that you're paid back. Who knows, that street begger may be the next Donald Trump!

Usually I give them some money, if I do not have extra money I 'd tell them frankly. Though some may be lazy ppl refuse to get a job, but these can be rare. few ppl will lower their egos to beg as a living.
It is still safe to make a mistake helping a lazy guy rather than abandoning the majority needy beggars.
Ask yourself, would u beg if u have a choice?

Well let see we could take away your job and home and anyone who might help you so you would be forced to live on the goodness of others and then see how much it bothers you. Most Americans are only one paycheck away from homelessness.

My question is how do we deal with self centered arrogant people they bother me.

It's an interesting question and I am sorry they bother you.

However, I think, if we can help, we should. I read the answers to this question before replying and I think the answers that replied with give some change or food are right. I usually give small change. I think no one will become poor by giving to the poor.

Walk past and don't look them in the eye. There's no reason for it- if someone really wanted to get on their feet, they'd find a homeless shelter that could help them out, and they'd clean up and get a job. Those who beg on the street are mostly lazy, druggies, alcoholics, or mentally ill.

When I go to Seattle I know I will be approached. I bring home made sandwiches and cookies, I do not give money. Ever. They usually respond nicely. I help many addicts and down and outers, but am not a money thrower. It is a choice I have made. And giving a sand out makes me feel good, whoever I give it to. I am a great cook and my house is clean.

Sometimes I put a coin in their cup, sometimes I just ignore them and walk on. It's very sad that they are a part of our society. It would be nice if there was a simple solution to the problem that would be good for everyone, but it's really complicated.
