dvd shrink , google it . it is the best i have found and you can use it for copywrighted dvd's

Yeah, DVD Shrink is good: http://www.dvdshrink.org/ Its free and fairly easy to use.

Theres plenty of guides of http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ under "DivX and XviD" explaining how to rip and convert DVDs at good quality.

Of course, DVDs should only be copied as a backup for the original owner's personal use.

Actually...nevermind. I think that will only let you copy home movies. I've got a bunch of DVD crap on my computer and I don't remember what does what.
