Why do people trust the bible when it was written by man so long ago? Isn't it hard to trust other people from long ago when we know that man is known for lying and deception?

loveboatcaptain - My question doesn't indicate that I don't have faith.

I have beliefs and faith in other things than the bible.

People who claim to believe the bible have either never read it, or totally lack the ability to objectively analyze what they read or hear.

The bible is a book of mythology, has nothing to support it's accuracy from a historical view, is contradictory and for the most part incomprehensible gibberish.

Can you believe some people assert that because Jerusalem or other places that existed (Egypt, Babylon, Syria, etc) are mentioned in the bible, the bible must be true? Hard to believe how gullible some people are.

So, then where do we draw the line? Do we ignore other histories that were written at the same time or before the Bible? Why does the age of something make it more or less trustworthy? Just because something is old, does not make it false, and just because something is new does not make it true. Should we also ignore the writings of Plato and Aristotle?

As a Christian, I look to the Bible to tell me how to be a faithful Christian. I look to the Bible to tell me about the God I have chosen to have faith in. I do not look to the Bible to give me an accurate view of science or history.

Now I believe that there are some (very few) things you can learn from the bible. It's just a book. And most people believe everything that they read. I liked To Kill a Mockingbird. And there are some moral lessons in the book, but I don't believe it or live my life by that book. People would rather be told all of the answers or what to believe rather than to research and draw their own opinions. I think on some level we are all right about certain things but we are too judgmental and polluted to do the right things.

There are more reasons that I believe the Bible than I can name here but, as far as the lying and deception of man goes, this is something that helps me believe the Bible.

If the Bible was written merely by men, not inspired by God, then the men would be liars and power hungry...why then would they give such commands such as greed and pride being sinful? Why would mere MEN give so many restrictions on sex? Why would they teach people mercy, grace and humility? I dont know of many men that would, let alone hundreds of them.

I personally believe in the bible because of faith. Also reading the OT & NT I am seeing more historical facts about the ancient cities & towns named in the bible, & what was aready written is inspired by Jehovah himself, written by man. We see new findings that line up with bible teachings so long ago.

Why do some people believe in the bible?

Because life Experience proves it true. Just Because it speaks against the you want to live does not undermine it's Truth. Science itself continues to prove the bible. history continues to prove it as well. though man does not always see it or want to see it.

some people believe or want to be live that the Nazis never executed Jewish men, Women, & children & those who tried to help them escape.

some people also believe or dont' want to believe that man landed on the moon.

but hey all that happened so long ago, right?..... can the evidence be trusted? after all man lies, right?

You will have to decide for your self. Jesus died to give you the right to reject the truth. or you can receive it. when you die and stand before the King of kings you won't have any excuse for rejecting Him. I pray you will choose life and not death.

Many have been taught that the Bible is the exact word of God, not a guide or a teaching tool or a tool of evangelizing. They don't believe man wrote it; they believe God wrote it (or maybe dictated it, I'm not sure).

The only possible answer is that we evolved to be gullible. Richard Dawkins argues that being gullible has evolutionary advantage. Children who don't believe their parents are more likely to be eaten by wild animals than those children who believe everything their parents tell them.

Bottom line is you buy into it or you don't.

I can talk like a Dutch lawyer all day long about how it's a living document, how He speaks through it, how it brings me closer to Him through more insight every day - but if you're not buying any of it then that's it.
