We're going to a party for a kid that's leaving for bootcamp - even though he's only 17. He will be back for his senior year. Do we take a card? A gift/money?

HELP!

Soap on the rope is an appropriate gift.

I've only been to one boot camp party, and it was thrown for my friend who was 17 at the time.... It was thrown by friends, not family, and we just made sure he was surrounded by those he loved and.... Well, lots and lots of alcohol.

If your friend's party is being thrown by family and not the type of party I went to, that ended up with the army boy passed out naked in a bathtub painted red white and blue, I think a card would be appropriate. Money doesn't seem like the right gift (for once) and I just can't imagine a gift for boot camp.

Regardless, I wish you and your friend well!

I'm with ogmah----run run run for your life---while you still can.

Seriously though, a card is appropriate. But more appropriate would be some sort of stationary and pre-stamped envelopes.

My brother was a marine and they were required to write home once a week.

Booze and women and lots of it. He won't be having fun for a while so he might as well have a blow out party before he goes.

Take a card with money inside.

I'm sure an alarm clock would be useful, I'm pretty sure he'll be getting up early from now on, and considering I have two brothers who like to sleep, it would come in handy.

Bring him a dress and pantyhose, and tell him to run for his life.
