I live in San Diego, i don't live that close to any mexicans but a my high school there are like 50-60. The protests earlier this year were funny, they were shouting Viva Mexico. They say they have great pride in their country, where does this pride come from, i can't seem to figure this one out.

Well... let's see... Mexicans may be proud of their history... which dates back about 1000 years or about 5 times as long as American history.

Americans don't have any pride in their country because there is NOTHING to be proud about... unless you could find pride in a country that has a history of human rights abuses dating back to before this country WAS a country or have pride in a country that has had 18 years of war for every year it's been a country or respect a country that destroyes every culture it comes into contact with and strips the lands bare in the name of profits.

Mexicans were an advanced civilization when Europe was in the Dark Ages and Mexicans were living free and worshiping their gods when the Holy Roman Catholic Church was burning people at the stake or breaking them on the wheel because they didn't believe in Geezus.

Mexicans are hard working and don't depend on a welfare state to support them. They are also honest, for the most part. The have a sense of family that is unknown to most Americans. Mexicans respect their elders and appreciate the extended family values.

The only people who believe that AmeriKa is a great country are those people who have never lived outside this country... and I mean LIVED outside the country and not just visited some foreign country for a week or two and then come back to the U.S. claiming to be an expert on the country and culture they visited.

It isn't the whole world that hates Mexicans... but the whole world DOES hate AmeriKa and AmeriKans because AmeriKans are seen as ignorant know-it-alls who are arrogant about their ignorance. Mexicans would NEVER think it perfectly normal to interfer with the internal affairs of another soverign nation like AmeriKans do. Mexicans would never force their will on other nations the way AmeriKans do.

So... to answer your question... just what do YOU think Mexicans have to be proud of?

hmm. funny huh? I dont know exactly were that pride comes from(can't say for sure). I'm mexican & i feel proud of my country(cant say the same about my goverment), of my city and most of its people.(there are bad people like everywhere else). I feel proud of the family i have and I understand where my parents come from. I feel proud of the closeness mexicans have. as a team we can do miracles! (wish my mexican seleccion could do miracles too but oh well lol ). We are (again, most of us) very warm and nice people. we show support to our "compatriotas" if they need it and we leave everything when a member of our family or a dear friend is in trouble. we are pure heart i would say :) I say this because some gringos i know are so cold, show 0 emotions and they are not close to their families and for example, my bf puts his job on top of anything(he is from MA). We are proud of our good values, our culture and our great food. family means everything to most of us. There's no place like home. it doesnt matter if you are far away or living in Mexico, I love my country even though i think my goverment sucks and that we have no security what so ever. Mexico could be a better place, I wish it could be a better place but if that cant happen it doesnt matter, is my country, is were i come from and I stand for it :)

No one should be proud of thier Government in any country.

They were expressing pride in themselves as people from Mexico and there are many who should be the indigenous (la raza) have much to be proud of. The government of course, like ours, crushes thier rights and exploits them but they are not expressing pride in thier "country" per se as much as thier heritage and their national identity. If you oppose that, like the many racists that have replied to your question then you should apply that standard to the Irish (who march all the time with thier flags) the Italians (who march often with their religious symbols and flags) and the Asians (on the Chinsese New Year) and the Native Americans even... you don't care about that because at the foundation of your ideas lies racism. Pure and simple bigotry.

Free your mind and your *** will follow - Clinton.

What are you proud of about the United States? The fact that they screw you on taxes unlike any other nation on earth?

wake up.

I just thought it was ironic that people were shouting "Viva Mexico" and waving Mexican flags when they were fighting for the right to immigrate legally. It's okay to have pride in your country, but if you love it so much, why bother to immigrate? We do have worker visas....

I live in SD too.

They don't have sh*t to be proud of. They still like having lots of children and are taking over our country. That's what they are proud of. They are winning.

I think their culture is a lot more respectable than White American culture. They value family life/friends/neighbors... in short people, while white people value money and trying to get more of it than other people and they'll do anything to get it even if it hurts people around them. We (white people) have one of the most selfish cultures on earth.
