How do you convert a Windows Media video file to MPEG format?

Can it be done with basic software that comes with Windows XP? If not, can you recommend software that will support this conversion?

I love Tmpgenc, you can get it at http://www.tmpg-inc.com, it is not free but you can try the free trial version first, it comes with various features, but not all of them, I have converted wmv to mpg with their free trial before I bought it

Wmv to mpeg with default Xp software i don't think so....... there are lot's of Video Convertors..... you can search in http://www.download.com........ goodluck...
