It has twin fans to help cool the radiator but they do not turn on. I was told the temp sending unit may need to be replaced. Any idea if replacing this would solve the problem and does anyone know where it would be located on a 96 Dodge Neon? We can't seem to find it. Thanks for the help! :-)

The coolant sensor is located on the rear of the cylinder head, right next to the Camshaft Position Sensor. (Right above where the engine and transmission bolt together). It's possible this is the problem, but I would suspect that the Fan Relay is defective. To be sure on either component, you'll need to test the circuits with a scan tool. Is the engine overheating? Do the fan(s) operate with the A/C on? The engine has to get to about 220'F for the fans to engage, the temperature gauge would be slightly above 1/2 way when this occurs. Before you spend any money, you may want to go to Auto Zone (or a shop) and have the engine controller scanned for any fault codes. This may help lead you to the problem without spending a fortune.

your thermostat may be stuck open causing it to not warm up enough to kick the fans on. this may be it if your temp gauge doesnt move

look aorund the ac area , or the wiring might need replacing
