Look online for bdsm clubs &/or informational meetings in your area. Many clubs meet just to talk and teach "safe play", it's not as intimidating as you might think.

Besides all of the online resources listed by another users I suggest open discussion like you have used in the past. I would also suggest finding a Munch in your local area.
Or some other form of public meeting place.

Get the book 'SM 101' by Jay Wiseman. It give you tips on how to get started, how to be safe, how to meet other players.
