My husband loves taking cold showers. I told him he's not getting clean unless the water is warm/hot. He tried to argue the fact that the soap is what cleans you, not the water. But I add that you wouldn't wash you dishes in cold water. Who's right. Do you really need warm/hot water with soap to get clean, or is cold water and soap ok.

Actually it is the soap in combination with the warm water with the friction that makes you clean. At least that is what they taught me at work in our little class on how to wash your hands.

Your husband is wrong because soap has been designed to dissolve into suds in warm/hot water. I would not recommend hot as it is painful to the skin and can cause burns.

However, I have been without power, but had lots of soap. No matter how much I tried I could not get enough soap to get really clean. I had to wait until the power was on and the water got warm enough to make the suds to properly get clean.

In a pinch, using cold water may be all you have, but the cleaning will only do some cleaning and then you will need to wash again much sooner.

If his friends were honest, they would tell him his cold showers was not making it!

People haven't always had soap and haven't always had the luxury of warm or hot water, yet the Native Americans and early settlers would wash in cold rivers or mountain streams. No soap and definitely not hot water but they did that to clean themselves the best that they could. Water temp doesn't matter so much I would think as just the fact of having the soap does. I would think the better question to ask yourself is why is he taking so many cold showers? lol.......?

Cold water DOES make your muscles relaxed, so that is a good reason for a cold shower. Also, its the soap that kills bacteria, hence why it is called antibacterial soap. Most soaps remove grease and other dirt because some of their components are surface-active agents, or surfactants. Surfactants have a molecular structure that acts as a link between water and the dirt particles, loosening the particles from the underlying fibers or other surfaces to be cleaned. The purpose of the water is simply to wash off the dirt and soap. Btw, you can not just put soap on and stand under the water, you are supposed to scrub!!!

Wow...I never really thought that mattered. I always take showers in hot water, only because cold water I can't handle. Hmmm....well I suppose since we boil and cook stuff to kill germs, it might be the same with human beings. However, warm water stimulates in women yeast infections and so forth. Cold showers on the other hand appear to be better. Cold showers should not be taken during a women's time of menstruation though. A woman needs extra rest and gentleness during her menses. Taking a cold shower is too much for the reproductive system during menstruation. A lukewarm shower is recommended. Generally speaking, hot showers are not good as they tend to depress the various physiological systems of the body.

Cold showers have the following positive effects:

*Brings blood to the capillaries, therefore increasing circulation throughout the body.

*Cleans the circulatory system.

*Reduces blood pressure on internal organs.

*Provides flushing for the organs and provides a new supply of blood.

*Strengthens the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems.

* Contracts the muscles to eliminate toxins and poisonous wastes.

* Strengthens the mucous membranes, which help resist hay fever, allergies, colds, coughs.

the soap does loosen the dirt however the water is what cleans you, just remember, soap doesnt come off without water. oh and uh, warm or hot water cleans you best UNLESS your grinding fiberglass, in which case you would have a millon pieces of fiberglass in your pores, the only way to wash up after playign with that is a cold cold unbelievably cold shower, or else your pores will open up and you will never get it out, so you both win!

I personally prefer warm water to take a shower and to wash the dishes, but i guess there's nothing wrong with taking cold showers although I can't see how anyone can do that. I think I would probably get sick if I took cold showers.

Well, I think it's all in the soaps or bacterial/fungal killing agents in the soaps... Personal Hygiene soap and body wash is a billion dollar a year industry.

If you'll notice though, noone is marketing and selling temperature controlled water (either hot or cold) for the perfect cleansing experience .

So it has to be in the soap doesn't it...

well the warm/hot water does open your pores so i think it is best to start with a warm/hot shower and if u wish end with a cold shower. cold water does not open your pores so u really need the warm/hot to really clean your pores. So I have to agree with you. it just seem logical and makes sense.

I think you get just as clean as you use soap and friction. You aren't showering in water that is hot enough to sterilize things anyway.
