The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state.

Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.

Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.

Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.

People who hate the ACLU are those who really don't believe in civil liberties, and who would make this country more of a dictartorship than what it's already become.

THE ACLU is needed to protect our liberties.

The only way to really protect them is to ensure that the liberties and rights of minorities and those with unpopular beliefs are protected. This is what ACLU does, in many cases by defending the rights of those with unpopular views (such as blacks in the 1950's and 1960's in the South, or even Nazis in the 1980's in Chicago, for example).

We must understand that civil liberties apply to all, not only to people who think like us.

People hate the ACLU because they are told to by corporate America's right-wing shills. There are people on the highest levels of government and corporate America who want nothing more than to overturn the US Constitution and turn the USA into a theocratic pluto-technocracy, where religious leaders and corporate executives rule over the citizenry with an iron fist. These people are meeting behind closed doors, plotting to turn the USA into a third-world country, socially, politically, and economically. These men believe that democracy has failed, and that it's time to replace democracy with an autocratic form of government. The ACLU is one of the organizations that opposes their efforts, so they've got their shills like Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and pretty much everybody at Fox News, going on about how evil and wrong the ACLU is to fight for the rights of individual Americans to say what they want and worship how they want.

Only Republicans hate the ACLU, because they hate the Constitution and the Bill of rights. Republicans have a long history of wanting to take away all civil Liberties.
Republicans support tapping your phone without a court order, they also support recording your post in here and your E-mail. Of course they will call it "national Security" reasons when they tramp on the Constitution and Bill of Rights when they do it.

The ACLU lack in common sense! They are not in touch with what America wants or stands for. They use obscure laws to push their agenda.

Because of the ACLU and Liberal Judges, the American people do not vote on moral issues, they (ACLU and Liberal judges)decide what is best for all. AND the ACLU receives money for doing so.

This organization has engaged in lobbying of elected officials and civil liberties activism.

The ACLU opposes the government-sponsored display of religious symbols on public property; and opposes official prayers, religious ceremonies, or moments of silence in public schools or schools funded with public money...The Georgia ACLU chapter was awarded $150,000 in fees after suing a county courthouse for the removal of a Ten Commandments display; a second Ten Commandments case in the State, in a different county, led to a $74,462 judgment. Meanwhile, the State of Tennessee was required to pay $50,000, the State of Alabama $175,000, and the State of Kentucky $121,500, in similar Ten Commandments cases.

While supporting, abortion; full civil rights for homosexuals, including government benefits for homosexual couples equal to those provided for heterosexual ones; affirmative action, etc.

I believe, originally, they started the organization for good reasons... but have since completely left logic and reason in the dust.

If any of the above was put to a vote by the American people... the ACLU would be left in the dust....

That may have been their original intent, but along the way they went so far left that even the left has trouble following them.

It does not count to protect the rights of only the most severe left & never the conservative - they have to be right sometime but find a case they protected a conservative in the last 10 yrs., & the admendment of seperation of church & state was to protect church from state not state from church - read some of the writings of the forefathers' papers.

In retrospect, the ACLU is a great entity that brings back grassroots to the common people. Unfortunately, what has happened in the recent years is that the organization has seemed to reach past what their original missions is.

The Idea of the ACLU is great, but they take things too far.

Example: A guy breaks into your house then gets hurt. He ends up suing the homeowner and winning!! Thank you ACLU

Example: A Policeman notices some late night activity at a motel that seems like possible drug buys. He walks up and peeks throught a crack in the drapes. He sees lots of drugs on the bed then busts the drug dealers.

In court all the drug evidence was thrown out because he didn't have a search warrant so the hardcore drug dealers got off the hook completely, THANK YOU ACLU.

Example: California Bank Robbery. The perps had full body armor, shot cops and civilians and stole money from the Bank. The Lovely ACLU sued the cops and the city because the perps layed in the street bleeding while the paramedics helped the cops and civilians.

I can't stand the ACLU because what I see is a special interest/only for the money lawers.

The ACLU acts against the rights of the individual to promote the rights of groups or classes of individuals. Far from promoting individual liberty, the ACLU promotes mediocrity and uniformity of thought and action. I could go on, but talking to ACLU members is like talking to teenagers, they've already got it all figured out and nothing you can say will convince them otherwise.
