That is a good question and one I've asked people over the years.
If people KNOW God & heaven exists, it seems to me they would be doing everything possible to get there as quickly as possible.
But, it seems they try to delay it as long as possible. The pope, mother teresa, Billy Graham and thousands (millions??) of others have extremely painful invasive surgery for the sole purpose of delaying their arrival in heaven.
Which leads me to believe they don't believe what they preach.

Probably the idea of dying makes people afraid. We are all uncertain of death: how it will happen, will it be painful? Life is transitory and for those who believe in heaven (i do) that is a hope we have and it gives us encouragement. The actual dying part is an unknown and even though we look forward to heaven, we will miss and be missed by those we love and care for. Death is bitter-sweet. From one existence to another.

It is fear of the unknown, noone really "wants" to die, even though we know we will have a wonderful existance in heaven.

Hi! Such a good question. People live in the flesh and are very used to it, besides the fact that they are very attached to it. We spend years, bathing, clothing, feeding and experiencing physical pleasure.People believe it to be something they "own" and a part of themselves. It is the attachment to the human flesh and all of it's sensual pleasures and vices that prevent the ability to feel solely spiritual.People don't remember what it's like to be without flesh and therefore, can't imagine being without it. Almost as if they want the bridge between worlds to be demolished; you are in flesh one moment and out the next. They want to skip the step and transcend the unraveling of their physical mortality.

2 reasons:
- We have a fear of change. When we die, we're done here on earth. Even those who believe in heaven can fear the change.
- We have a fear of the unknown (I guess that's part of the reason we fear change). That could be a fear of what to expect, but could also be a fear deep down about commiting to find out.

They know very well that whether they want or don't want they will die one day. so they want to go to heaven at that time.

because life is a wonderful thing and we want it to last fore ever but we know that we have to leave this fleshy body of ours to enjoy the life that is being prepared for us in heaven just picture no sickness, pain, war, death, crying, bills, hate among one other, no evil all of those things will be gone and everybody wants to experience that feeling and wants to see just how beautiful the earth will be without all those things,

I think all people fear the unknown. I fear a painful death, but knowing that heaven is on the other side helps.

I don't want to die because I rather enjoy my life. I also don't believe in heaven.
When I die, I will be ready for it. I have had a good run already, and hopefully will have many more enjoyable years.

Spiritual death is not annihilation it is seperation from the living God. To live eternally without God is to wish upon yourself annihilation which never comes (to me that is the pain of hell).
To be indewlled with the spirit of God through the regeneration of ones spirit through Jesus Christ is to be eternally present with the Lord. That is part of what it is like to be in heaven.
