You have to read it and interpret it for yourself. How can you know that someone else has done it correctly. I personally believe that everyone gets something different out of each Holy Text. What is meant to be for you will feel good for you and what doesn't feel good to you will end up here in Y!A as some sarcastic question made to make others think. What doesn't work for you may work for someone else though. That may be why there is always someone on here crying foul. When I read the bible there were parts that I felt I could hear through my heart as if the words were spoken there. Other sections left me cold and bored. To each their own. The trick is to get what you can out of each book while allowing others to do the same. With out needing to prove anyone wrong.

You are free to read the Bible and Qu' ran and interpret if for yourself. However, you are not free to interpret it and say that your interpretation is truth.
That would be the same thing as me readying a book on Quantum Field Theory and teaching an upper graduate course on what I thought the book was trying to say, and then claiming what I said was true.
When you give free interpretation and you wish to discuss it with others I would advise that you say in my Opinion this...

Not the Qu'ran. "Interpreting" the Qu'ran is punishable by death. Which should tell you all you need to know about Islam and the Qu'ran, lol.

Why wouldnt you beable to? Thats like saying, I'm not free to interpret legal documents as I wish. As long as you follow the base premise of what they have to say, I say, forget what everyone crams down your throat and interpret away.

well, its good to start that way but i think you'll go out of your mind to try and interpret it your way. there are lots of metaphoric messages in those books. what i suggest is that you read a section then read an explanation by theologians usually found on the foot notes of those books

If you have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior you most certainly can read the Bible and interpret it for yourself.
Jhn 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The cool thing about living in the United States of America is that you have the freedom to do all of the above. However, remember that everyone has the freedom of speech, and their opinions my not agree with yours.

You are free to read them and learn from them. But they interpret themselves. Let God speak to you....you'll discover that the truth is evident, and doesn't need "interpretation".
