It is the same teaching as the gospel, I agree. =)
Every religion is a tool to guide a person to put away evil, humble, free
from impurity, self restrained, versed in knowledge,
leading a holy life,
so that they can have a better life after death.

The question was not put to Hindus... but to Jews... and it was a question whose answer was a reflection on Jewish history and prophesy ... not Hindu history and prophesy.
But according to the qualifications of a Hindu Brahmana, Jesus could have qualified as a Brahman... if you wish to consider his life as such... but Jesus was not without desires. He desired to teach about his Heavenly Father, and that listeners would get to know his teachings... There is a difference ... hope this helps!

"Who do you say I am?" For one thing, Jesus was the Christ, 'the Son of the living God'. The long awaited 'messiah'.
Jesus did not publicly announce himself to the people as being the Messiah or Christ, although he did speak of himself as the Son of God, with continual references to his heavenly Father who had sent him. Among the Jews who heard Jesus preach and saw his miracles, opinions differed as to who he was. But did his first disciples carry the same conviction concerning him as at the beginning?
In the third year of his ministry, when up near Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked them: “You, though, WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?” Simon Peter answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus called Peter happy and told him that the heavenly Father had revealed it to him. Then Jesus added: “Also I say to you, You are Peter [Petros, Greek], and on this rock-mass [petra, Greek] I will build my congregation, and the gates of Ha´des will not overpower it.”—Matt. 16:13-18.
