biblically we should only speak when necessary. Any unnecessary words or speaking is pointless.

biblically, we live our lives only speaking as needed. We are servants, but blessed with mercy to be more than just drones.

"pass the salt" is direct and to the point - all we need to say.
"pass the darn salt" is adding details, which the devil is in-lol

gossip is sinful and unnecessary speech- details that the devil is in

much of the things we do in life is unnecessary. God knows we are like a bunch of kids, we dilly dally and get distracted as we do our chores, so many of the unnecessary things we do may not be holy, but they arent necessarily sinful either.

Like playing sports, I love to do it, but its unnecessary.

The bible says that "that which is not holy (or righteous), is evil!"

With that being the case, anything besides the point and purpose is technically evil. The details of anything is beside the point- therefore it must mean the devil is in the details.

If I say "I am goin to the store." - thats my point and purpose.
If I add details like; "I am going to the store downtown to get some cheese" - then "...downtown to get some cheese" would be adding details which are unnecessary- I only needed to say, that I was going to the store, and it fully explained my point and purpose. Although, I could have just went and spared THOSE details too-

Just like this entire answer- pointless details.

When you asked: "If the devil's in the details(take this literally)...?
then is satan possessing me as i write these words?"

I could have spared ALL details and just said "yes"

Satan tempts someone to do something they know to be a sin, whether or not you do it is up to you through free will. Of course, if you were possessed you wouldn't be worried about what others wanted to know and you wouldn't ask, you would tell people you were and try to avoid the Bible.

That last part doesn't make any sense. To disregard its meaning is to invalidate it as an inquiry. Therefore, you cannot truly have the question solved, merely babbled about, as I am doing now.

OK taking what you write literally and appl the laws of logic:

we have an if-then situation.

but you never establish that the devil is in the details. Therefore, your argument is invalid, in fact there is none. hmmm what is it your saying?

Your last sentence is a very good description of the Devil in the details.

Uh, the devil can influence our decisions or tempt us, but we can resist him. I'm not sure I know what you mean...
Oh yeah, and pray
