I've actually downloaded Windows Vista Beta 2 ISO from Microsoft official website and I really, really want to install it immediately. Before I do so, I've read many articles online and found out that a partition needs to erase all the data before partition can be done. In my current drive, it contains lots and lots of data (MP3s, movies, games, etc...) and I don't want to remove all of those data. I searched across the internet and found out that Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 can offer such a non-destructive (without removing any data) partition. Is it really true that it can partition a hard drive without removing all my data? Is there any more alternatives that could enable me to partition my hrad drive without removing all my files?

A hard drive can be repartioned without erasing your data. Winodws XP has a command line based repartitioning tool and while the command line has it's uses, that is not one of them. I mean, you could do it that way but you have to define everything manually. I'd get Partition Magic, it'll do the hard stuff for you, all you have to do is define size. Though, it's a little pricey at $57, http://www.viosoftware.com/Powerquest/PartitionMagic+8.0.html?utm_source=bizrate&utm_medium=mall&utm_campaign=10256717

There is a free partitioning tool called Partition Logic that comes in the form of an iso file so you have to burn it and make a bootable disc, it comes with more utilities and of course a partition resizer, http://partitionlogic.org.uk/

I've used Partition Magic on a number of drives with both Winblows & OS/2, all successfully. There are certain cases where it won't be able to work, but it will let you know first. If you try and shrink the partition too much, then there will be problems, or if the data is badly fragmented. Running a defragger first can help if PM says it can't shrink the partition. In the case of expanding a partition, I've never had a problem.
