What sex is your 9 yr old cat? Female or Male? And is your 9 yr old cat fixed? How did you introduce the 9 yr old cat to the kittens?

A older cat doesn't always appreciate new young kittens or cats too well. If your older cat is female and fixed, she may have some resentment towards you bringing new kittens home. She may feel threatened or jealous that the new kittens are there. Plus if she is a female who was fixed without ever experiencing mother hood for herself she may harbor other hurtful feelings towards them and you.

Or if your older cat is a tom and he is fixed. Tom cats are very territoral creatures and since he was there the longest he may try to hurt or possibly kill the kittens. Could it be possible that your cat may be the daddy of these kittens? Tom cats are notorious for making femal cats pregnaunt but want nothing to do with their own children as a rule.

How did you approach the situation to your old cat with the kittens? Did you just let them run free and they met up with the old cat or vica versa? Proper introduction with a old cat and new kittens can be a crucial point in getting along together, but not always does this work. Proper introduction must be that you take one kitten at a time and hold that kitten nearby the older cat. This way the two of them can smell each other and get used to each others' scent. You should have seperated the kittens from the old cat in a cage for awhile first. Then once the cat got used to seeing them, and smelling them and appeared okay with them, then you could have left one kitten out at a time first. Then gradually let the rest out too.
No matter what pay attention more to the older cat and show him or her that you love it too, just as much.
If nothing works you may want to visit the vet and ask him or her what to do.

Good luck to you and I hope everyone can get along! Pets are the best companions to us humans!
