Its pretty sad people still think that. In the early 80's AIDS started to be medically recognized. And it was gay men who were reporting with the illness.

Its been known for more than 2 decades that anyone can get AIDS. There are public service announcements everywhere that make that clear.

I had no idea people still thought that. I mean 20+ years and people STILL think that????????

I guess the ones who dont want to believe it, are the ones who dont want it to cramp their style.

I'm still surprised. Are we talking about in America?

well, i dont. Everyone can get AIDS. Stupid people who end up with AIDS think that only gays get AIDS. My husband said that once to me & I told him hes lucky hes married now & only doing it with one person! When Im with a guy for a long time & im ready to do it without a condom, i MAKE the guy and i get tested together and see if we are clean. Every time. i dont understand y people dont. Who wants to die?? Thats I risk i will never take!

I tihnk it probably stems from the fact that gay men engage in riskier sexual behaviour than their hetrosexual counterparts. (this is fact I am not trying to be negative). Additionally I think that gay people proportionately have a higher infection rate, so lets say hypothetically that 3 out of 10 gay people have aids while 1 out of 10 heterosexuals have AIds, the increased frequency in the gay population leads people to draw false conclusions.

(My numbers are hypothetical)

some people think you have to be gay to get aids, that is not true, the fact is the people who sday those things are uneducated about aids and should take a course on it, there are many ways to get aids and not the ways that most people think. I.d have to say those people need to get a clue and learn about aids before they get it.

They're ignorant, not stupid mind you, but ignorant of facts. Sure, in the US more cases of HIV infection are reported. But world wide more heterosexuals are infected and die. Even though here in the US there are more cases among gay MEN, monogomous lesbians have the LOWEST risk factor. Lesbians are gay...
Also, almost as many heterosexual males and females combined are infected as gay males.

Most of the ignorance comes from blind hatred of gays and their way of loving. Straights don't usually understand it, they fear it (even though they'll tell you they don't) because it's something different than what they're used to. They say it's immoral and sinful to be gay or have what they call "gay sex."
Personally I find that term laughable simply because what is generally concidered to be "gay sex" is anal sex, in which MORE heterosexuals engage in than do gay males.
Religion plays a huge role in this hatred of the different. They will preach selective parts of the Bible forgetting everything else, even their own sinful ways just to make them feel better.
The gays are becomming another religiously persecuted people. Just as were Witches, left-handed, women and anyone not of the paticular religious demonination/cult.

Okay, this is why, I think, anyway....

Because "gay" meaning males who have sex with eachother have anal sex. Anal sex can cause health problems if not done properly. If you do not lube right, you can tare your inner skin. When you have tares like that, you can spread all kinds of nasty little problems. Problems that can end in aids. This is what I believe started the whole aids thing, but now everyone is taking it too far and being like, "oh, your gay, you have aids"

Heteros are just as likely to get AIDS as a homo.

It's a myth that gays are more prone to AIDS than heteros. A sexually transmitted disease can be transferred through sex - whether it be vaginal, anal, or even oral sometimes, it's transferred through sex. And, well, most people have sex, gay or straight.
