you just need to eat more healthy food. when you have braces you can't chew hard things like candy-- wich is bad --for teeth and gums.
you will need to eat mushyer things and cut things up for Ex. beans. braces only hurt when you just tighten them it wheres off after a couple of days. your cousins probley lose weight because they don't eat a balanced diet.

I had braces for 4 years. I was told to give up popcorn and corn on the cob, but I continued to eat both. You've just got to spend some time picking all that stuff out of the braces afterwards. There's no reason to stop eating properly if you have braces. It just doesn't make sense. Yeah they hurt a LOT the 1st 3 days you have them on, but after that, even when you go for a tightening it's not that bad. Plus, depending on your financial situation and how bad your teeth are, you can get the invisilign kind, and you can take those out when you eat. Seriously, it won't affect your life nearly as much as you think it will.

at the beginning its very sore so dont try to bite anything down. then u get used to it and u can eat anything at all(well almost, except things that are sticky like laffy taffys although i still eat them) they dont ruin ur diet ur diet stays the same but at the beginning get really soft food that dont need much chewing

There's not a "diet". Certain things will break your brackets or bend your wires... You are advised to avoid those foods.
