If you can find something of your Grandmas that has her scent on it you could try putting it in the dogs bed; if he's missing her, it'll comfort him. Something like her pillowcase.
At the same time don't be sympathetic! Don't be over the top, but try and encourage him to take a walk, sniff around and take his mind off it.
Sensitive dogs will respond to sympathy by acting even more miserable to keep the attention coming. If he's going off on his own, quiet and moping I'd say he's missing her; if he's in your face with "Oh, poor me" he's learned to act that way to get attention!
The other possibility is that he's off colour and coming down with something, so keep an eye on him. Or maybe the heat is getting him down. Make sure he's always got a big bowl of fresh water.

Definitely, my two dogs pine for me anytime I'm on holidays they stay with my Mum and she's told me that they go into a major depression as soon as they realise we're not coming back for a while. Poor baby just misses your grandmother just give him/her loads of cuddles and rubs, this might help cheer them up.

Yes,they do. Think a lot about how you would cope up with your dogs attachment just in case you will not be able to deal with him on a long term basis.Just pet the other person's dog if you are not ready to commit.

Yes when they are neglected. They tend to miss the person that pays them the most attention. Poor thing, hope your grandmother comes back soon!

If they have the capability to love, then it follows that they can feel depressed. If your Lab loves you grandmother, then your Lab misses her. Only for them it is worse. There is no way to tell them that she will be back. Your dog only knows that she is gone.

Your dog could've been very close to your grandmother and thinks she isn't coming back. Just try to comfort him and give him lots of attention.

Remember dogs aren't people and we shouldn't be quick to assign human emotions. (Not to say they don't have doggy emotion...) They can certainly appear to suffer something like depression. That said it rarely lingers like it does in humans. Just give him more attention, and exercise.
